Obeying your parents

This one is for all the kids…. And maybe some of you older kids. Have you ever been at home doing things that you shouldn’t be doing? Have you ever been told that something is wrong and yet you went ahead and did it anyways? Are your parents wiser and smarter than you? If you answered yes to any of these questions (which you all should), then you probably came to the idea that hey maybe you should listen to your parents. Well today I’m going to talk to you about the reasons why listening to your parents are a good thing.

It’s in the bible

            Proverbs specifically states in the first chapter that kids listen to your parents. “Hear the instruction of thy father, and obey the law of thy mother. For they shall be ornaments of grace unto thy head and chains about thy neck.” Let me give you a little back story when it comes to this verse. Solomon, which is the primary writer of this book, was the wisest man that ever lived. God had promised Solomon that he would become the wisest and richest man that there would ever be. So of course, God made him the wisest and richest man that there ever was. Solomon saw that listening to your parents was so valuable that he decided to write about it. And he compares it to having an ornament of grace on your head and a chain around your neck. What does that mean? To me it means, that if you listen to your parents, then you will look cool. Simple as that. You will look righteous and wealthy. A chain about your neck, imagine if you have a gold chain around your neck all the time, you look pretty cool don’t you? Of course, and God is showing you something that is worth more than gold jewelry. Not only that, but it will keep you safe and out of harm’s way.

It’s the law of the bible

            Not only is it the wise thing to do, but the New Testament teaches us to listen to our parents. After Jesus died, a preacher from one of the churches told the kids to listen to their parents. This was Jesus’ preacher that was telling these kids to listen to their parents. I know kids, it’s hard to listen to your parents.

When not to listen to your parents

            Believe it or not, there is a time when listening to your parents is a bad idea. So, when is it bad to listen to your parents you might ask? When they go against the word of God. Say for instance if you are in the store and your mom tells you to steal the chocolate bar. It’s a little thing and the store loses so much merchandise a day that they might not even notice it. In fact you might be doing them a favor because the chocolate is going to go bad in a day. It’s still stealing if you take the chocolate and at that point it is best to not listen to your mom. That is the only time when listening to your parents is a bad idea. So, the moral of the story is, know the word of God well so that way you can know when it is a good time to do the right thing and what the right thing to do is.

Well kids, I hope that you’re still here. I know that this might annoy you a little bit, but it’s worth telling you what the right thing is so that way you can go out and do it.
