Write out your thoughts and questions
This will organize your thoughts and you can remember what you wanted to ask the preacher
I remember I one time wrote down some notes in church and I realized that those notes developed me as a Christian. It widened my eyes and let me meditate on those thoughts when I got back to my house.
My preacher just recently gave us a challenge to read the Bible a few times this month. So, he gave us 1 John to read for the month of February. I have already asked him a question and it was because I took notes of it.
Get to a place that’s not your bed
When you’re in bed, you tend to get really comfortable and that can actually make you lazy. You get in your bed and you just want to zone out. This is not good for a Christian. We must make the difficult decision and get to a place where it’s sturdy and quiet like a library and just read the Bible or pray or develop our relationship with God in some way.
I remember a few times that I’ve been lying in bed and I start to think to myself, “man I should be praying to thank God for another good day.” I, however, don’t do so because of my own laziness. I’m too lazy to get up, get on my knees, and start praying to God.
Getting to a place like a library is also good for our mentality. I remember one time I attended a therapy group and they said that in order for us to rest easily, and to work harder, we should have a place designated for work in your house. So I’ve come to make that my downstairs living room.
Make a routine
When you get in the habit of doing something, those habits will engrave themselves in your brain and eventually they will be hard to break.
I remember a few times my guitar teacher said to me when I first started playing guitar and I was building bad habits. She said, build good habits early on because bad habits are hard to break later on down the road.
I later wanted to see if this statement that my guitar teacher said was true, so, I tested to see if my good habits had been built up and sure enough it was so hard to break my good habits.
Pray before reading the Bible
Prayer is our way to communicate with God. If we ask God to be merciful to us and allow us to talk to us when we read the Bible , God will communicate. He will communicate in the most holy of ways.
In church before you do anything, you pray don’t you? So why wouldn’t you pray before spending time with God?
I remember one time my pastor said in church, the praying man is a strong man, why would he say that? It’s because praying is something strong and He knows it.
