The Challenges with being a Christian musician and the upside

As a Christian, you have enough struggles in your life to add another thing on top of it. However, what would life be if it wasn’t for all of the ups and downs that come with living? Even though life gets hard, it’s God who sustains us. We need to have faith in God. So with that being said, here are some of the struggles that I face as a Christian musician

Loneliness

            I could go out to almost any bar or coffee shop and there would be people there waiting to listen to music and eager to mix and mingle, but almost none of those people are the type of people that I should associate with. I am the type of person that likes to keep my friends that smoke, far. It’s nothing against them, it’s just that being around those types of people will influence who I am, what I do, and how I behave around other people. So, this makes me a very lonely person because a lot of people out there smoke and do bad things. I don’t need that in my life, I don’t need to curse or drink alcohol or do drugs. I don’t need to say and be what other people are because the world loves them and not me. I am a Christian, I don’t curse, I don’t drink or smoke, I don’t want to have sex outside of marriage, I don’t go to parties, and I don’t want the world.

Poverty

            There are a load of people in the music industry who make money. Not necessarily make millions of dollars a day, but they make about 100k a year or so. I believe that it’s good money and I wish that I could say the same for Christian musicians. But the reality is that if you want to get by with music, you either need a big following, or are willing to work another job and make albums on the side. For right now, I’m going to college, working, and making music. I love my life. I do my work and I give it my all everyday but I know that I’m never going to make the same money that secular musicians make (unless of course God says I can then I will)

THE UPSIDE

            What is the upside to these reasons that are just hurtful? There are a load of good things that come with being a Christian musician. The first thing that we can count on is God providing. Even though we might never have a Lamborghini or Ferrari, even though we may never own a mansion, even though we may live with modest things, God promises to provide for us. What kind of things does God promise to provide for us? He promises to provide for us a house, food, wife/husband, money that is good for us, and whatever else you need in your life, God promises to provide for that. Another thing that is good about being a Christian musician is that you are doing a good work. What is a good work? A good work is a work that blesses God and uplifts him. If we bless God and work to bless him, he promises to give us our hearts desires. God is good, so why don’t we have faith in him to help us throughout our lives
