Our spirit, much like our bodies, needs to be exercised on a daily basis in order to become stronger and prosperous. If we feed and nurture our spirit, it will become difficult for our flesh to win over our heart. This is something funny because one time my preacher told me, “You know, Satan doesn’t even have to try with us, we fall on our own.” It’s so true, however, the more we exercise our spirit, the less likely it is that we will fail God. Let me share with you somethings that I do to exercise my spirit

I go to church

Going to church feeds our spirit. This is when we hear the word of God. This is where we learn new things and build on the things that we already know.

When I was a kid, I made cruel jokes about going to church because I didn’t know any better. I would make jokes like, “oh I’m filled up for the week” and things of that nature. But I never really appreciated what the Holy Spirit was doing to me every week. I started to appreciate these things when I turned 17. When I turned 17, I started to commit my life to God and that ultimately changed who I was. I made the commitment to leave behind all of my earthly desires and just want the holy things from God. I’m not saying that it’s not bad to have a car and a house and a T.V. But what I am saying is that I just do not submit myself to the things of this world anymore because I love God more than I love this world.

I read my bible

Reading your bible on your own makes the commitment to God more intimate. Now you are not showing up to church and showing your face to people and saying that you’re a Christian. Now, you’re going to God, in your spare time when you’re alone, and you’re communicating with him and he’s communicating with you. God is so wonderful that we can go to him anytime and he would be there waiting to give us a response.

There are so many thing that I am praying for right now, however, I’m so sinful that I don’t even know if the things that I’m praying for are good for me. I pray for things like the military, jobs, money, a family, a wife, yet I don’t ask God what he wants from me. In all reality, I should be asking him what he wants for me because ultimately it’s his decision what happens in my life and not mine.

Sometimes I fast

The reason why I say sometimes I fast is because I have tried fasting before and either I will starve myself for the entire day or I will fail at it by eating. I am very careful that I don’t starve myself because God gave us food to eat as well. God gave us these things so we could enjoy and benefit from it. But, nonetheless, I still fast occasionally for things that are near and dear to my heart. I pray first before I fast because this is a good thing that I need to do for God. God hears my cry and he knows what I want, so there is nothing that I should fear from God. God is indeed beautiful
