What is the Lord’s Supper?

I remember a few times I have been scrolling through facebook or twitter or Instagram and some people will make a statement saying, “Today was my grandmas birthday, she would’ve been 92 if she was still alive.” I thought to myself, well yeah and Adam and Eve would be 6 thousand some years old today if they were still alive. I didn’t really quite understand why people did this, why would you continue to celebrate someone after they have died. Now Let’s shift over to Jesus. Jesus said to have the Lord’s supper in remembrance of him. I thought to myself what a holy thing to do, and then I saw why other people celebrate their grandmas birthday even after they died, it’s because they want to show their appreciation and love towards their grandparents. So, Jesus wanted us to show our appreciation and love towards his sacrifice that he did for us. Now let’s talk a little bit about what he’s done, why the Lord’s Supper is important, and why it is important to get right with God for doing this holy thing. Let’s get started.

The Lord’s Supper is a memorial to God

            Remember the one who died for our sins? The one who was perfect and didn’t deserve to die? The one who punished the seas and they listened to him, turned water into wine, fed five-thousand, and healed the lame and sick? This is the one who we are talking about! I say this with peace and vigor in my heart. Even after all of those times that we committed sin and refused to obey the word of God, God still had mercy on us and decided that we deserved to live with him. It is not to say that we are good because we are not, but rather, it’s because God is good and God loves. God loves with a love that this world cannot understand because his love is just too holy for us.

            There is something that needs to be said about this memorial to the Lord though. I believe that this memorial should be done by the committed Christian. It’s okay to have your own opinions and I’m open to hear them, just don’t be aggressive, I just think that the committed Christian should be the one to take this memorial. Why? Well because I believe in the bible, the word explicitly states that you have to be committed to God in order to receive this memorial. Just know that it’s what I believe.             The Lord’s Supper consists of the body of Christ and the blood of Christ. How do we represent this? Through bread and wine. In my church, it’s crackers and juice. The bread symbolizes the body of Christ. The juice symbolizes the blood.

            Once you have the bread and wine, you eat it after you say a prayer. Now I say this with all seriousness in my voice, you are remembering Christ for everything that he has done for the world. You are remembering Christ for the life that he has given you. For without Christ, we are nothing. When you take the bread and wine, bless the Lord, worship him, thank him for everything in your life, for it is the Lord who we are talking about.
