Every day is a new challenge. From doing chores in the house to working a 9 to 5, there are many ways that your faith can be tested. Along with that, there are many opportunities that you have that can be greatly impacted by your faith. Your faith in God shapes your character, changes people’s lives, and ultimately guides you closer to God. I know for a fact that my faith has changed me in many ways ever since I started to actually listen to God. Anyways, let me tell you how my everyday life choices have changed because of my faith, let’s get started!
I listen to God and what he says more than what I want to do
I learned this lesson early on in my life. I learned that with people, you have to be nice to them even though they aren’t nice to you. Why? God has ordered us to do so. I know that sometimes your inner selfish ways may want to take over, but it’s important to do it God’s way because God knows what is best.
God’s way may not necessarily be the easiest way, but it’s a lot easier than not doing it God’s way.
I remember a few times I have done things my way and I’ll be honest with you, I regretted it horribly.
I’ll give you an example: When I was around 16 my parents forbade me to have a girlfriend. I didn’t listen and let’s just say that things went bad and I ended up regretting it. I know that some of you kids out there want to have a girlfriend or boyfriend really bad but its not the end of the world if you are alone until you’re older.
Here’s an example of when listening to God WORKED: When I was a kid, my dad would always tell me to never give up on the good things in life. So, I learned how to ride a bike. And then when I grew up a little bit, my dad told me to not give up on the guitar and to keep practicing, so I became an excellent guitarist. Now, my parents tell me to never give up on a job or my dreams, and I know that my parents can fail me, but God will not fail me, so I can rest assured that God will have victory over this.
All throughout my life I had read in the bible that it is important to listen to your parents, so for the most of my life, I tried my best to listen to my parents. I would of course fail, but I was always doing my best to listen to them. Sure enough, what did my parents instill in me? God, hard work, education, love, strength, wisdom, kindness, caring, etc. etc. Those are the things that my parents put in me and I couldn’t be more grateful. My dad always encourages me to get stronger, my mom always encourages me to seek more God, my parents want me to become more educated, my parents want me to chase my music dreams, I love my parents and I see why God wants us to listen to our parents, it’s because they do love for us.
All of this just to say that you need to listen to what God has to say instead of what you think is right. If God says to be nice to people even when they aren’t nice to you, then you be nice to people. If God calls you to war, then you go to war. If God wants you to be president of the United States, no matter what barrier there is in the way, you must become that no matter what.
I ponder where my feet are going to go
As a Christian, you can’t go absolutely everywhere. Now I know that some of you are saying, “Oh German, everywhere you go there are sinners, what should we do?” True, but it’s harder to listen to what God wants to say in a bar than in school. If you’re in school, work, church, or maybe even in a nice restaurant, then I’m pretty sure that God wouldn’t disagree with that.
Also, the people that you associate yourself with will also guide you where you need to go. You can’t be hanging out with everyone because not everyone loves God as much as you do.
I get right with God first before I do anything.
So, before I do anything in life, I ask God for his help. Why? Well it’s the right thing to do. You can’t do anything in life without God’s permission. Therefore, you should ask God ahead of time for permission to succeed in whatever you’re about to do because God can help you. I have asked God for a lot of things, from a wife, to being able to bench 200 pounds, I have done a few of the things that I have asked God but I’m still waiting on a few of them as well. God will answer when the time is right.
Moving forward
I think that our faith is a direct reflection as to how close we are to God. If we are really close to God, we will ask him what does he think about every decision that we take. I mean like there are things that I don’t think God would ask us to ask for permission like taking a shower or praying or even doing your homework in school, because God also wants us to be free. But we should talk to God about anything that’s on our mind, actually anything and everything that’s on our mind.
