The more you read the bible, the more closer you will be to God. However, it is not enough to simply read the Bible. You have to learn and teach yourself the bible, so that way, you can have a deeper, more intimate, and developed relationship with God. Ideally, we would like to memorize the entire bible, but since we cannot, we must put as much bible into our hearts and minds as possible. Here is a list of Bible verses that I think are the most important.
John 3:16
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, so that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life.”
The granddaddy of all bible verses has got to be John 3:16. This bible verse is the basis of our faith. The cornerstone that we build our spiritual mansion on. This bible verse gives the reason as to why we need to believe in Jesus as well as showing God’s abounding love towards humanity.
John 3:16 not only describes our faith, but also tells us that we need a savior in order to go to heaven.
Now, I know that I have just read to you a bible verse that might not make sense to some people, but let me explain what this verse means. Jesus had been preaching to the apostles and he said this verse, so what it’s basically saying is that even though we were sinners lost in sin, God sent Jesus to die on the cross to go instead of us in the place that we so rightfully deserved.
Romans 10:17
“So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God.”
This bible verse was said in a time when illiteracy was very prevalent. People couldn’t read and it was impractical for someone to pick up the bible and try and read what was in it. So, God made it easy for everyone in the world to get to know him. He said that faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God. If you listen to the word of God, then God will give you faith.
How about today though? Well now that a lot of people can read is it still the same? Yes it is! God doesn’t want to exclude anyone from his grace so he says that if you just listen to him, then you will have faith. Now, if you want to grow with the Lord, then yeah it might take some bible reading or praying or doing Christian things. I would say do all of these things early on in your life so that way you get the most out of what God can do for you.
Job 38:16
“Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea, or hast thou walked in the search of the depth?”
This bible verse is very peculiar because of a few things. For one, it is God himself speaking to Job. What happened was that Job had questioned God about why bad things happen to good people. So, God decided to respond to Job in a whirlwind. God had asked Job “hast thou entered into the springs of the sea?…” However, the springs of the sea weren’t discovered by scientists until the 1970’s. Why? Because the springs of the sea are located very deep in the ocean.
For one, this bible verse proves that God is real using science. Two, God was asking Job this question because he wanted to show Job that Job truly doesn’t know a thing about what it is to rule the world. Job had no concept or idea of what is right and wrong. When things look bad, it could be the right thing because it is.
The reason why I list this as one of the most important bible verses is because of faith. We need to have faith in God even when things get bad because in all honesty, we don’t know what is good for us. God knows what is good for us and sometimes that means something bad.
***If you haven’t noticed a pattern with the first few bible verses that I mentioned, I talk about faith because without faith we can’t do anything. I say these bible verses so that way we can have faith in God. We can have faith in God together. Which brings me to my next bible verse ***
John 15:4
“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bare fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye except ye abide in me.”
Jesus was preaching and these were the words that Jesus used. He said that we need to abide in him so that way, we can bare fruit. IF we aren’t abiding in him, then we are like a branch that has been cast down from a tree and is good for nothing. I know that this bible verse didn’t say that but it says it in the following verses.
I choose this verse out of all of the verses in chapter 15 of this book because it is giving us instruction as to what to do. It is clear as day that we are to abide in Christ.
Jesus was comparing himself to a vine and us as the branches. God is the husbandman who tenders the vine. Jesus says that we are like that because without him, we are nothing. It’s true!
1 Corinthians 6:9-11
“Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God?” Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolators, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and the spirit of our God.”
I know this isn’t one bible verse but it’s so important that I had to say it in this blog post.
Often times I get asked questions like, “Would God accept me into heaven?” or “Does God love everyone?” This verse had an early preacher from the very first churches speaking. He said, that none of those people will go to heaven and such were some of them. The people that this preacher was talking to were Christians. So, the preacher said, “and such were some of you…” The preacher knew that these people had done those things which were against the Lord, and then he says “But ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified…” Don’t get me wrong, a thief will not enter into heaven,
BUT!!
If that thief accepts Jesus into his life, If he wants God with all of his heart, If desires God more than anything, of course God will accept him into his kingdom.
I do not support homosexuality because I believe that it is something wrong and that God doesn’t support that, however, if a homosexual wants God more than anything, God will make himself known to that homosexual.
Likewise with the rest of the sins in the world. Which brings me to my next bible verse
2 Peter 3:9
“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all come to repentance.”
This bible verse directly supports my previous statements about different sinners. In reality, there is no different sinners, there are no classifications of sins because we all do sin. It doesn’t matter how big the sin is, we commit sin.
However,
This bible verse directly states that it is not God’s will that any should perish. God doesn’t want anyone to die because he knows that dying is painful. God wants all of us to go to heaven with him because God loves us all. Regardless of what sin we’ve committed, God wants us in heaven because God loves us.
Mark 12:29-31
“And Jesus answered him, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: This is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.”
Jesus condensed the bible in a few short laws. Jesus basically said, Love God above all else, and love thy neighbor as thyself.
Jesus was saying this to a young man who asked Jesus what is the greatest commandment out of all of the laws. Jesus responded that all of the laws and the prophets on these two laws, love God above all else, and love thy neighbor as thyself.
