Doctrine is anything that teaches us that is directly or inspired from God. All doctrine is good for reproof or correction and should be listened to at all times. Now, with doctrine, God knows that it is nearly impossible for any of us to follow the law completely all the way throughout our lives. It is part of our nature to mess up and sin every once in a while, however, God’s doctrine is loving too. Let’s talk about this for a second.

Let’s talk about Jonah

There was a prophet in the Old Testament and his name was Jonah. Jonah was a prophet who disobeyed God. I will tell you in a little bit why Jonah disobeyed God. What happened is that the town of Nineveh was corrupt and evil and so God told Jonah to go to Nineveh and tell the people that if they do not correct their ways, then God would bring punishment to them.

Now Jonah disobeyed God and went the other direction at the turn to Nineveh. So, Jonah Got on a ship and left and there was a storm and what happened is that Jonah eventually got swallowed up by a whale. So, Jonah saw the errors of his ways and started to pray in the belly of the whale. He prayed for three days and three nights and finally on the third day, the whale went to a beach and spit him up. So, Jonah went to Nineveh and told the people that God was going to bring punishment to those people if they did not correct their ways, and so, the people made a sacrifice to God and corrected their ways and they worshipped God.

Now why did Jonah disobey? It is because Jonah KNOWS THAT GOD IS MERCIFUL! Jonah knew that God is a merciful God and in Jonah’s eyes, the people of Nineveh did not deserve to be shown mercy. Yet God sent Jonah because God thought that the people deserved mercy.

Now if the people are as bad as Jonah thought and they really did rebel against God’s doctrine, Why was God merciful? I honestly don’t know. But you have to think about the doctrine that God has put on mankind, it’s impossible to follow and it is completely pure and holy! They are the simplest of things to follow and yet God knows that we cannot follow them. God is a merciful God and all doctrine should be seen with mercy in our eyes no matter what that law is.

Now let’s talk about Doctrine in the New Testament

Jesus knew that it is impossible for us to follow all of the laws perfectly, and so, he made it simple for us. Love God above all else and love thy neighbor as thyself. That is how Jesus summed up all of the laws that there ever was in the bible.

The New Testament is a sort of extension to the New Testament. I know some of you bible scholars are looking at me and probably saying that is incorrect, but bare with me I didn’t go to theology school, I just know God.

Anyways, the laws that were spoken and the directions that Christians are to take that were preached by Jesus and a few of the first churches, were meant to basically give us freedom in the law. The law is not binding to anyone except for the sinners, that’s in the bible. The same thing applies to the laws in the New Testament. The law was meant to give us freedom in Christ.

What does that mean though? It means that we are free from the burden of sin, yet we are supposed to act in a Holy manner. If you ever want to know what is Godly and what is ungodly, just refer to the bible, it has all sorts of things that you can base your life off of.

I personally don’t drink because that could lead to drunkenness, I don’t smoke because that is unhealthy and the body is the temple of God because God dwells in it. I don’t curse because the bible says to not curse, I go to church, I pray, I read my bible and I sing Christian songs because those are all things that God wants me to do, that is part of his will.

Its okay to be imperfect, just don’t dwell there

God’s will for our lives is perfection and yet God doesn’t expect us to make every single right move. God knows we’re going to mess up, we’re sinners. The beautiful part about it is that our God is perfect enough to forgive us for all of the atrocities we do with each other, ourselves, our families, everyone for all of the world for all of eternity.

I remember for the longest time, I was doing my best to try and live a perfect life, I finally gave up a few months ago while I was writing this blog, I said to myself, you know, I’m going to let God take care of the rest because I’m just too sinful. I’m still going to do my best every day to not sin, but I’m just too sinful to live a perfect life and so God is the one who is going to step in.

So why does it have to be this way?

Everything was made for God’s pleasure, everything. It says so in revelation. You were made for God’s pleasure. God said, you know this world needs a Jimmy, a Mark, a Jennifer, a Brittney, a German, a you and so he sent you on to this earth to live your life and ultimately fulfill your destiny and your destiny is God’s will.

Don’t be sad, but rather be happy

Don’t be sad because now, no matter what you’ve done, you can go to heaven, remember that unforgiveable sin that no one forgives you for? God forgave you for it. God forgave you and now you are worthy to go to heaven.
