The bible is full of wisdom and intelligence. Not one verse is greater than another because we need all of them just as much as the next. There are verses that I would prefer for a beginner to read rather than a seasoned veteran, and there are also verses that I would like a seasoned veteran to read rather than a beginner. Why? Because the bible also speaks of this and it says that when you are new to the faith, it’s like being a baby, you need the soft milk from your mother in order to live. However as you grow bigger in the faith, it’s okay to eat meat and other nutrients because now you need those nutrients. So, first I’m going to go over some verses and books that you should read as a beginner in the faith. Then, I’m going to go over what are some things you should read as a growing Christian, let’s get started.

The book of John.

When I first started to get closer to God, it was actually in youth church at my own church. I went up to my youth pastor and I had questions for him and so I asked him, “ Hello pastor, I was wondering, what are some books that I can read as a beginner in the faith of Jesus. Like I know that Jesus is alive and I know that God is the correct way to heaven. I have already known about that for a long time, but now I want to grow and I want to have a solid foundation in the faith.” He said, “Amen, you can read John first because John talks about the life of Jesus. John also explains the reason for our faith.”

John 3:16

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son so that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” Jesus spoke those words and it literally says that if you believe in Jesus, then you will live. Why? Because Jesus is the son of God.

I think that the entire book of John is actually essential to the beginning of anyone’s faith. John shows the miracles that Jesus did, along with giving a really soft and kind way of putting things into perspective.

Let’s get something straight here. There was a man named Jesus and he is perfect in every way. He did perform miracles that are just amazing. He did speak the truth, he is the son of God, and he did die and rose on the third day. John explains all of this and so I think that it’s important to start out reading John3:16 and then later reading the whole book of John.

Afterwards, you need to read all of the gospels.

What are the gospels? The gospels are the first four books of the New Testament. The first four books of the New Testament are Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The Gospels tell you the life and teachings of Jesus from a wide variety of perspectives. They share similar things because of course we’re talking about Jesus’ life.

The gospels are going to solidify your determination with God and ultimately help you grow with God even further. Show your determination to God by reading the gospels.

Then read the book of proverbs

The book of proverbs is one of the books of wisdom, however, in my personal opinion and this is up to debate, it’s the one with the most wisdom. Proverbs will start to teach you what is Godly and what is ungodly.

Solomon, which is the wisest man who ever lived, wrote the book of proverbs. What happened is that Solomon had been praying to God and God made a promise to Solomon that he would be the wisest man who ever lived.

Sure enough Solomon was wise and he was also rich too. Actually it is said in the bible that God promised Solomon that he would be the richest man who will ever be in the world. Wisdom, brings riches.

Those were the things that I would prefer for a beginner to read, now let’s talk about some more advanced things that I would prefer a bigger Christian to read.

1 Corinthians 6: 9-11

Now, why do I want you to read this? This is a New Testament Verse. One that happened after Jesus died. And this is verse says the type of people who will not enter into heaven. However, then it says, “…and such were some of you, but now ye are washed, ye are sanctified, ye are justified by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the spirit of our God.” What happened is that one of the preachers was preaching to a group of Christians and he was explaining to them the type of people who will not enter into heaven but then he says that they were those people and now that they have accepted Jesus into their lives, they are forgiven and can go to heaven.

Why do I say this verse? Because it’s important to understand that though Jesus forgave us, it does not mean that we are to act and do things in an ungodly manner. God forgave us for our past, present, and future sins and that’s good but we now we are to walk in a holy manner.

If we mess up, it’s okay, just don’t dwell there, get yourself back up. If you can’t get yourself back up, then ask God for help because he will lift you up.

The rest of the bible

I would prefer if after you’ve read the gospels and seen the beauty of God, then you would read the rest of the bible. It’s okay to read from Genesis to Revelation, however, it’s very difficult and I wouldn’t recommend it to someone who just started reading the bible. Read the first two to three books of the Old Testament and you’ll have a solid idea as to what God is all about.

Then, read the rest of the New Testament and pray to God each time so that way, he can reveal to you what is holy, what is true, what is his will, and ultimately get closer to God.
