I am a Christian. What does that mean though? What does it mean to you? Does it mean that you grew up in a Christian household and have the traditions of a Christian? Or does it mean that you have committed yourself to God? Now ask yourself this question, If I am committed to God, where do I show it? How am I committed to God? Do you read the bible? Do you pray? Do you go to church? So what does being Christian mean to you? Let’s talk about why I read the King James Bible and why it connects to my Christianity.
It is the most original text compared to the other versions of the bible.
The King James Bible is the oldest translated version of the bible that there is. All other versions either consult with the King James Version or directly state what is in the KJV.
However, even though people consult with it, they do not translate it directly for what is the real word of the KJV.
When studying the Bible, it is important to have as close to the original text as possible because you want to make sure you are reading God’s will and not man’s. I’ll give you an example: I have read in the KJV that it states, “… but of the greater of these is charity…” it says that in the New Testament.
However in another version of the bible it states, “…but of the greater of these is love…” it’s literally the same verse yet it talks different words. I think in this instance they are trying to say the same thing however they are not. Love and charity go hand in hand however it is more important to take the bible as a whole and not just individual parts.
Why is that important to my Christianity?
As a Christian, I want to do things God’s way, not mine own. I want to follow God wherever he goes and I don’t care what that is, just as long as I am with him. Shouldn’t we all do the same though? I know it’s impossible for absolutely everyone in the world to follow God until the end of times, however, we must all do our best to always chase after him.
The reading of God’s word for what it is, shows that I follow God wherever he goes. This shows my commitment to him and that I don’t just follow the traditions of a Christian.
You know sometimes I look at Christians who only follow the tradition and I say to myself, “It’s easy to get presents on Christmas next to a warm fire, but can you carry the cross that Jesus asked you to carry long ago?” Jesus asked us to carry our cross with him. We should all do so.
The bible also mentions that Jesus’ burden is light and his yoke is easy. So there’s that.
