Sin, what is it? Sin is doing something bad. Sin is doing wrong against God. I know what some of you are thinking, “German Sin was only found in the Old Testament, how are we supposed to define sin nowadays when Jesus took away all of our sins?”
First off, I want to say that sin, even though it was taken away by Jesus, is not something that we should be doing, at all. As a matter of fact, we should work to slay our sins on a daily basis. Slay? What do I mean by that? Let’s talk about this for a little bit shall we? Let’s talk a little about sin, what counts as sin in today’s society, how we should slay our sins on a daily basis.
What do I mean by slay our sins on a daily basis?
Slaying our sins means that we kill our sins. There was once a good, Godly, man and what happened was that he was trapped in a cave with ungodly kings. These kings were evil and did not love God. However, this man knew that if he stayed with them in that cave long enough, then he would definitely stay and eventually commit the sins that they were committing. So, This man killed all of the kings in that cave because he wanted to stick close to God.
This is how our brains should be. Every time we get an evil thought, we are to slay that thought with all of our might, strength, wisdom, and prayer through God.
I have actually gotten through most of my life with this thought. However, I never knew how important it was until I grew older. In the heat of the battle, one cannot forget their integrity because their integrity will ultimately guide them with God.
What counts as sin in today’s society
Let’s take a look at the Old Testament and it’s rules shall we? The Old Testament clearly defines what sin is. The Old Testament of course gives us the ten commandments, don’t lie, cheat, steal, Love God, don’t kill people, etc. etc. However, the Old Testament also gives us about a thousand other rules that we are to follow to the tea.
If we cannot follow these rules, then we are to sacrifice a spotless lamb to God.
No one can follow all of these rules, it’s literally impossible.
However, when Jesus died for us, it basically clears us of our sins and allows us to go to heaven even if we commit those sins a million times.
Now, there is something to be said about this. Even though Jesus forgave us of our sins, and even though God is the only one who can judge. That should be all the more reason for us to obey the laws and listen to God’s word for all of our lives. Jesus died for us, that’s great because now we can go to heaven! However, it’s like, we now have to live a perfect life. Though we may fall time and time again, Jesus will be there to pick us up and we can rely on that.
There is something in the New Testament and I believe that Paul was the one who wrote it. He said, “The law was meant to show what ungodliness is and what Godliness is as well.” So, know what Godliness is and chase after it with all your heart! I know it’s a hard battle to fight for, but you have to do it! Do not let anything stop you from getting what you want!
