Ahh Christian music. I love Christian music. It’s what I write about in my songs, it’s worship for God, it’s love for the body, it’s who I am. What are the best Christian songs of all-time? I don’t know because that’s a matter of opinion. However, I can share with you some of my favorite all-time Christian songs and the reason why I like them so much, let’s get started. This list is by no means in any order because all of these songs I have declared as my anthem at one point or another.
Here I am to worship
I love that song, I think the original songwriter was Paul Baloche or Chris Tomlin, I can’t remember so don’t quote me on that. It describes perfectly what a Christian is all about to God. It’s like saying God, I know what you are and I understand you enough to say here I am and my purpose is to worship you.
I remember when I first heard this song it was through the album Open the Eyes of my heart and the band who covered it was Sonicflood. I loved their rendition of Here I am to worship it had all of the elements that I have always loved. Guitars, drums, powerful hooks, and an ending that exalts God more than man.
Actually I’m listening to it right now as I’m writing this blog post and I can’t help but to sing along with it.
I could sing of your love forever
This song was originally written by Delirious. I can’t help but to sing and cry at the same time because this song is so powerful. I could literally sing of his love forever because God is worth singing about.
This is another cover song that I heard by Sonicflood, if you can’t already notice a pattern. Sonicflood came out with a cover of this song and put it into I think their first album. They also put it in their best of album.
After I heard Sonicflood’s version of this song, I fell in love with Sonicflood and they became my band for a few years. I bought a few of their albums and I just fell in love with their sound.
Open the eyes of my heart
There are so many versions of this song that I don’t even know who made it first. I have heard it in Spanish, English, I think Chinese at one point, I have heard the rock version, the acoustic version, etc. etc.
In my opinion the one who does it best is Michael W. Smith. If you ever look up Michael W. Smith’s version of Open the Eyes of my heart, you will fall in love with it.
Very strange that I don’t mention Sonicflood in this post right? Oh wait, Sonicflood did come up with their own version of Open the Eyes of my Heart, however, I did not like it too much. Go ahead and look it up but I’m telling you it’s not that great, it’s good, but I would prefer to hear other versions.
Lord I lift your name on high
I first heard this song sung in Spanish at my church. However, it’s been translated into many different languages including English.
I think that the one who does it best is Lincoln Brewster. The studio Version of Lincoln Brewster’s Lord I lift your name on high is TIGHT! Distorted guitar mixed with Synthesizers and a voice that sounds like it belongs on a punk album make it so good. The small intro sounds like it should belong on a gospel track, however once you get into the song, it just sounds like Christian pop.
Salvation is here
I’ve got to be honest with you guys. I didn’t always like this song, however, once I became a little bit more mature in my walk with God, I fell in love with this song. This song is so powerful to me. I love it. It helped me to get through the most difficult things in life when I was going through it.
In my opinion the best person who does it is yet again, Lincoln Brewster. Hillsong does this song and actually I think that they were the ones who wrote it. But, I have to say that Lincoln Brewster makes it so powerful.
Lincoln Brewster does a pop-rock type vibe and I’m personally a big fan of pop-rock so yeah that’s the reason why I say that Lincoln Brewster does a good job at this song.
Loco devo estar
Let’s get multicultural with you guys. I am Spanish, from El Salvador, and I have a few Spanish songs that I like a lot. I’m not going to name them all here, as a matter of fact I’m only going to name one. But I will name this song because this song literally means, “I must be crazy”. I’ll translate the Chorus for you guys it goes, “I must be crazy, I couldn’t find, a single reason to go on, but then I found you, and because of you I can see that there is a path for me. You give me reason to live.”
I love that so much because God does give us reason to live and this song just says it all. God does give me reason to live.
My redeemer lives
There are a whole bunch of Christian songs with the same name and they say different things. The one that I’m talking about is by Philip Craig and Dean. I think that Philip Craig and Dean do an excellent Job at communicating what they really think about God.
I remember I heard this song first from that same album that I was talking about at the beginning, Open the Eyes of My heart.
This song got me through a lot of rough times. Along with Salvation is here, it reminds me that God is a winner and that there is a happy ending to this tale.
Thank you all for listening in on this blog post. I hope that I have been an encouragement and inspiration to you guys. Please pray, read your bible, go to church, and love God above all else. Like, comment, share, and subscribe and I will see you all next time. German Gonzalez, signing out!
