Getting into the music industry is a task that is difficult to do. It is not something that can be done easily, however, it’s not impossible either. There are a multitude of things that can get in the way of a person getting into the music industry and also the job that they get in the industry. There are many aspects to the music industry: Managers, lawyers, agents, mixing and mastering engineers, songwriters, artists, producers, session musicians, A&R reps, executives, just to name a few. All of these people can have an influence in your music career but to be honest with you, it all starts with God. Let’s talk about this for a second.

Why does it start with God?

In the bible it states that we are to listen to our parents until death in the Lord. Why does it say that? Because God knows that our parents are the ones that love us and that they will guide us towards the right direction. And he also knows that our parents are human and can mess up so you are to listen to him above your parents.

I am currently speaking to those new musicians that want to get into making music and performing shows and making songs for a living. Who was the one who instructed you to listen to your parents? Who was the one who guided you all the way from the beginning? Who is the one who gave you wisdom? It was God. God is the one who told you to listen to your parents and your parents told you to keep practicing and to never give up on your dreams. Who told you that you sucked? Who told you to give up? Who told you, you couldn’t do it? It was the world. But God had better things planned for you and so he decided to give you the talents that you have.

Here are some bible verses about talents

I know of the people that I am speaking to, I am speaking to people who failed math or English, who didn’t get the job or doesn’t have a perfect attendance record. I know for a fact that if you put your mind to it, you could have done anything in this world. You could have been in the NBA, you could have been a doctor, you could have been a police officer, you could have been a part of seal team 6, been signed to Barcelona! You name it, the list is endless. Is there anything too hard for God? No there is not! You know why I say that? Because I have lived it.

When I was a kid, I prayed to God to make me an excellent musician, I prayed to God to make me the best musician that ever walked this earth. Sure enough, I started to play guitar and I would not stop. However, there was a catch to this deal with God, the deal was that if God made me an excellent musician, then I would use that talent for him for the rest of my life. I said then I would make songs for him for the rest of my life. Right now I am living that dream. I will forever write songs for God because he has completed his part of the deal and I know it.

Now some action things that we can do to make it in the music industry.

So what happens is that yes we need God to be the first and foremost person that we go to when we go for our music career. But we also need to work at the things that we want.

My pastor once told me and the rest of my congregation that dreaming is a big thing and yes it can be powerful, however, dreams only work if you work hard at your dreams.

So remember that God has to be the priority in your mission but we need to work hard as well.

So let’s talk about some of the things that you need to do in order to get into the industry.

Be an awesome musician

So the first thing that you need to do is to be an awesome musician. And that actually means a lot.

It means that you first had to have spent years upon years upon years of practicing your instrument and singing.

It means that you need to have perfected your craft whether you’re a producer or a songwriter or a singer, you need to have perfected your art and been the best songwriter or singer or producer possible.

So take some time and try and work on your craft first before you go on and try and get signed to a record label.

The second thing is that you need to gain an audience

The second thing is that you need to build a following around your music and really harness the power that comes with being that influential.

But what does that mean? It means that you attract thousands of viewers and visitors to your website and channels so that you can make a living off of your music or at least start to make money off of it.

It’s actually not that hard to gain an audience, but it takes patience. So if you want to start gaining a following, all you really need to do is to create a website, put it on google search console, and create a whole bunch of content. That’s like 90% of all the work that you need to do. the other 10% of things is maintenance things.

Now it will take time to make this a success, it won’t happen overnight, but just stick with it and you will go far.

Here is a blog post I wrote about how to gain an audience on X

Here is another blog post that I wrote about self-promotion.

The third thing is that you need to have sold concerts and albums

I know that this sounds counterintuitive but the third thing that you need to do is to actually sellout a whole bunch of shows and albums.

This will actually prove to a record label that your music sells and that you are an act that can perform well under pressure.

Start off small and work your way up and sure enough, you will have built a following and a listenership that is worth the wait.
