What is really important?

In an earlier post, I had explained to you guys that money isn’t important. I kept saying that money has no value and that it’s okay to not have money. However, Money has it’s value and it’s place in the world, so it’s not like you should completely ignore money altogether either. But then it leaves the question, what is truly important? What are the things that are really important in our lives? Today, I will talk to you about what is important in our lives and why the things of this world can be a distraction from the important things.

God is important

          Above all else, you should always seek the kingdom of God. Everything else is second banana to the kingdom of God. Why do I say that? Because if you follow the kingdom of God, everything else will follow in place.

          I say this with tears in my heart, God provides. Why do I say this with tears in my heart? Because all of my life I was lead to believe to get a good job and if you have a good job then life will be smoother. However, I keep hearing from everyone in my life that is important to me that money will not solve our problems. Money cannot solve our problems. We have to be able to solve our problems because we are the ones responsible for our own lives.

          God provides, and so what? What does God provide? God can provide a car, a house, food, a job, education, a wife, kids, health, God can provide everything that you ever need or want, he may not give you everything you want because we all want sinful things, but you get the idea. If the birds in the sky neither reap nor sow and yet God feeds them, how much more are we important to him? Oh ye of little faith?

          So now what? Now, you can live free. Free from the bondage of money. Why? Because money is a bondage, I know because I’ve felt the bonds before. It bonds you to the material things it bonds you to coveting. However, if you know that God will provide for you just as long as you do your part, then what are we to fear? God promises to feed us, God promises to house us, God promises to give us the things that we need when he sees fit and I trust that.

          But it’s not just that, that’s the reason why God is important, God is love. God loves us more so than our mothers. God loves us to death. God knows that we are sinful and yet he still decides, I’m going to let this person live another day.

          I remember a few times when I was going through life. I had confessed everything that there was to know about me to my mother and you know what my mother said to me? She said, “Now son, I want you to go up to God and tell him all of the problems that you just said to me just now. I want you to confess to him everything that there was to know about yourself to him. I want you to speak to him like you are speaking to me. Why? Because in this manner that you are speaking to me is how you should speak to God.”

          God holds life and death in the palm of his hands. God holds wisdom and courage, bravery and strength, intelligence and knowledge all within the grasp of God.

          Honestly everyone I know I can say that family and friends are important too, however, they are nothing compared to God. So, if I were to say that family and friends are important too, it’s kind of like putting them in the same boat as God and they are not.

          I like to think that family and friends matter but are not important. That’s the way that I think of it. God is important.
