What is the gospel?

The gospel is the good news of the world. It is the best news that you will ever hear. So what’s the news? The news is that you can now go to heaven regardless of where you came from or what you’ve done in life. Now, you can go to heaven even after all of the bad things that there have been in your life. Why? Because our king, Jesus, died for our sins and has risen again for us. A sacrifice had to be made for us in order for us to go to heaven and now the sacrifice is done and the sacrifice was Jesus, the perfect lamb that was slain. Let’s talk about this for a second.

What is sin?

            In short, sin is something that you’ve done and it’s bad. So what’s bad? Everyone thinks that something else is bad and it’s not to someone else? What is bad? Well, bad is something that is defined by God. God is the one who reigns supreme over us, we literally have no say in what is bad because what we think is good can in essence be evil.

            So, God is the one who defines bad from good. God, actually lists out all of the bad and good things that there is to do out there in the world. But not only that, God gives out his spirit to us to tell us what is the right thing and what is the wrong thing.

            When you are in a situation where the world is telling what is right and wrong and yet your God tells you that it is wrong, then you know for sure what is right and wrong and not what the world thinks. The world can think a million things at the same time and still be wrong, but God could think of a billion things at the same time and not be wrong. So, everything that God has said is actually for a reason, so don’t think that you know more than God because obviously no one on earth knows more than God.

How does that relate to us?

            Well because of our sin nature, we tend to do sin on a regular basis, if it’s not every moment that we live. Our sin nature means that we will always sin for the rest of our lives. That literally means that we cannot be close to God.

            What happens is that God is so holy and pure that he literally cannot be close to us because our sin nature, our imperfection, separates us from him. We need something to bring us close to him permanently.

Jesus, the bridge to God

            Jesus is that bridge that brings us closer to God. If we believe in Jesus with all of our heart and strength and might, then God will allow us to be close to him.

            The Jews are the chosen people of God. God chose them to be a nation of priests and it was so. What happened is that there was a mountain with a veil in it that separated the Holy place from the holy holy place. You cannot enter the holy place unless you were from a specific people inside the Jewish nation. And you cannot enter the Holy of Holy place unless you were the purest of the nation from that tribe.

            When Jesus died, that veil was torn.

            Inside that veil was actually where God lived. And God tore that veil because at that point it was clear that you did not need anyone to stand for you to forgive you of your sins. No, now anyone can get close to God, Jew or gentile. Anyone on earth can get close to God because God now has allowed it.

            There you have it, our salvation in a nutshell. We don’t need anyone to stand for us in order for God to forgive us. God has forgiven us because God is that holy.
