Why are some bad things in the Old Testament considered cultural context when they do not align themselves with what God stands for?

I hear you, it’s confusing right to understand why it was necessary back then and not necessary now. Well, let’s talk about this shall we?

Example: In the Old Testament, men had multiple wives whereas today that would not be allowed in Christian doctrine.

So, back in the day when there were no laws in Judaism about wives and husbands, it was perfectly normal to do those types of things. No STD’s or STI’s were around, if a man were to sleep with his sister, back then, no child delivering problems would occur, it would just be another day, God hadn’t put those rules as of yet and he hadn’t told them the consequences of doing those bad things.

It’s not that it was okay, it really wasn’t. It’s just that people don’t know the difference between right and wrong. It’s shown all over the Old Testament that people don’t know the difference between right and wrong.

People need God to show them what is right and what is wrong.

Nowadays we see that those things are wrong, but it’s only because God has told us the difference between right and wrong.

The Law of the Lord

Around the same time that God had put the Ten Commandments, God also put a set list of laws that needed to be done in order for his people to be his.

Part of the laws talked about the marriage bed. You can look these up on your own because some of them are really explicit.

Keep in mind something

So, Jesus said this, “Love God above all else, and love your neighbor as yourself.” Jesus also said that all of the laws rest on these two things.

Honestly, if it were me, I would go and look up those laws regarding the marriage bed because it’s only for our best interest that we look these laws up.

It gives us a sense of what is holy and unholy.

It allows us to become closer to God by studying what God wanted us to do all along.

Jesus, did he come here to disregard the law?

Absolutely not. It wasn’t Jesus’ job to basically get rid of the law, rather, he came to save us from the law. The law was meant to bring us closer to God and also teach us what is holy and unholy, Jesus is the bridge that gets us close to God.

Jesus did not come to get rid of the law but rather, he came to show us what it is that we do wrong. We do wrong all the time and God is the one who helps us get through it. Jesus of course came here to save the world from hell.
