When you start out anything, it can be a little daunting knowing what to do or where to start. Sometimes people think that you have to have absolutely everything perfect in order to actually do anything. However, if you wait to have everything absolutely perfect, you will never do anything in life. Some people think that you need to be born with a gift, but if you don’t have a gift and want to do something, are you just going to let it slip by your hands? No! you have to go out and make your things happen! In this blog post, I am going to share some bit of advice to up and coming Christian artists and how to get started in the music industry.
First off, know your craft
If you’re 12 years old and don’t know how to play an instrument, then it would be safe to say that, that’s where you have to start.
Learn to play the guitar or piano and along the way learn how to sing because all of those things are going to prove to be very beneficial to you in the future.
I assume that if you’re reading this part with intensity that you don’t know too much about music OR you just want to get to a point where you are good enough to make music that sounds good.
Well, if you’re starting out, congratulations because music is the best gig that you’ve ever heard of.
You can be your own boss or work for a company. You can support yourself and your family or you can just take it as a hobby, either way, music is the best thing that could happen.
Don’t be scared of bullies when they tell you that you suck, because they wish they could be you. Keep grinding at music and sure enough, one day you will succeed at the guitar or piano or whatever it is that you want to be good at.
Keep at it
Everyday, it’s recommended for any musician to spend at least 30 minutes practicing his craft.
Of course if you want to become an insanely good musician, then you’re going to have to put in more hours a day, but don’t worry, when you get to the point where you practice a lot of guitar each and every day, then you’ll be ready for those kind of hours.
Remember that consistency is key so don’t forget to practice every day and make it a priority too. If you want something in life, you better work hard at it every day.
Become multi talented
The more skills that you learn, the more money that you’re going to make. It’s plain and simple. So, learn to be a songwriter or producer or guitarists or vocalist. Learn to do all of those things and by doing those things you will open up opportunities for yourselves.
Right now, I am learning how to mix my own music and it is so much fun. As part of the mixing process it’s important that you listen to a lot of music day after day on the speakers that you have to mix in the environment that you mix in.
I know how to play piano, sing, play the bass, guitar, I know music theory, and I know how to write songs, all of those things are very marketable things in the music industry. You don’t think that someone would want to pay money to have a person such as that in their team? Of course they would! Now the thing is that you have to get better at it.
Market yourself
When I say market yourself. You have to be willing to show your work to other people, otherwise it would be a very expensive hobby to keep up with.
I preach starting a blog or a YouTube channel, but if you have another way that you can get your audience, then go for it, I’m not saying that there aren’t other ways that you can grow a following, but make your following and go for it,
Put in the work
Other than writing songs and marketing yourself. There will be times when you are going to have to do other things that require work. You might have to sign autographs for hours or you might have a deadline for some things. You are going to have to book your own shows at first, all of this stuff comes easier if you just work at it, just know that it’s going to help you out in the long run too.
Last but not least
You need to be completely submitted to the word of God in order to do anything in his name. You have to be submitted to him that means praying to him, reading the bible, and going to church. It means spending time with God and developing a relationship with him.
Broadcast
I hope that everyone on this blog was inspired to start their dreams. You can serve the Lord with music and you can make it sound good too. Don’t be concerned about the money because God will always provide.
