People become fans of musicians for a whole lot of reasons. Awesome bars, influence, who they are as a person, what they stand for, etc. etc. Today, I’m going to go over why people become fans of certain musicians. Let’s get started.
Their music
First thing is first, a musician wouldn’t be a musician without his music. With every genre of music that there is, there is a certain attitude that people relate to whenever they hear that artists name. When you hear of Eminem, you think of a bad attitude with inspirational backstory. When you hear Justin Bieber you think teenage boy who found his first love.
So when you hear music coming from someone, you learn a little more about that person. You learn about who they are, where they come from, their musical influences, etc. etc.
The same is true for a Christian musician. There are a million versions of Lord I lift your name on high. But the one that stuck to me the most has to be Lincoln Brewster’s. Why? Because I love rock. I love rock versions of songs because it just sounds so appealing.
It sounded like a mix of old school church music and new school rock and I absolutely loved it.
When you hear someone’s version of a song, you can now relate to whatever it is that they are. I related to the rock version of Lord I lift your name on high, you can relate to whatever music that you hear that you approve of.
Their message
Whenever I look for music, I am always looking for the message that the artist is putting out there. What I want, is a song that is biblically sound and supports the bible. I do not want worldly views on a Christian song because I feel like that’s not worshipping God, it’s complaining about the world.
I love listening to the songs of Toby Mac because I think that they are fun to listen to. However, I have only heard a few of his songs because I personally don’t think that they are worshipping God.
Toby if you’re out there I’m not dissing you, I like a few of your songs but I just don’t agree with their messages.
If you like Toby, that’s fine but I feel like God could use his talent in a different way.
I feel like Toby could become a whole other level of Christian musician if he said different things.
Now I’ll be honest here, this is true for a lot of the musicians out there. I like a few select songs but I just don’t like the message that they convey. There are few Christian artists who I don’t mind listening to an entire album and even fewer popular artists who I don’t mind listening to. But all in all, the message is something that’s going to tell you what kind of fans and superfans you’re going to get.
Who they are
Okay, I’m not going to lie to you. Record labels look for hot young artists to sign to their record labels. That doesn’t mean you can’t get a deal without being young and hot, but the thing is that record labels want to set the tone as to who they are.
Obviously, having a young and hot person being their main attention sets the bar pretty high.
Obviously that’s not true for every record label. Obviously people in the jazz section of music are usually older, along with blues. Blues is more for a genre of older people because usually older people have gone through more hardship than a younger person. So often times, they can relate, Not always the case, but it is what happens sometimes.
The reason why Record labels do that, is because they know that their target demographic are younger people. Pop artists, rap, rock, hip-hop, Country, all usually want younger people to attract the younger audiences.
They do that so they can get more money overall.
Also, we all know that it does make a difference when we see someone attractive being the center of attention. When that person is at the center of attention, well, we often times say to ourselves that we want to be like that too. Haha!
