How to write Christian songs

As Christians, we face a challenge when writing songs that no other genre faces. We face the challenge that we are writing about someone else and not about ourselves. We are writing about someone who we have never seen and sometimes we don’t know very well.

            Today, I’m going to go over the best ways that you are supposed to write Christian music. Let’s get started.

Read the bible

            Spending time with God shouldn’t just be a once a week thing, because if you’re just doing that, then you have a very shallow perspective of God.

            Reading the bible lets us a more intimate relationship with God. We are taking time out of our lives to get to know more about God and in this manner it will become easier to write lyrics for him.

            All of the preachers that I’ve ever had, has said that I need to read the bible in my spare time. I need to read the bible because that is the way that God communicates to us. That’s one of the ways that God communicates to us.

            If we are not in constant communication with God, how are we supposed to write about what he says or what he is?

Practice writing

            When we start to write about God, we start to exercise the muscle that is associated with imagination. We start to get creative in the ways that we worship the Lord.

            I remember back when I first started songwriting, all the advice that I ever received was get better at songwriting. I remember people telling me that in order to become a songwriter, you need to be writing songs.

            Your lyrics are only going to get as good as how much work you put into it, so start writing!

Pray

            I can’t stress enough just how important prayer is in our lives. We must be praying because or else, we will be led astray from the righteous path.

            This past Sunday, my pastor said that we are supposed to be constantly going to church, praying, reading our bible, listening to the word of God through music, etc. etc.

                       I know I’m preaching to the choir here, but it’s true! How many of us actually pray to God on a consistent basis? How many of us actually pray to God on a daily basis? You see I have to mention this because it’s important that we start to do the things that God wants us to do.

Listen to Christian music

                       As Christians we are to live a life of Christianity. That doesn’t mean that it’s boring. It’s just that our perspectives change when we become Christians.

                       When we become Christian, we change our whole set of ideals. We start to think that the old things that we were are no longer things that we want. We start to see that God and God’s ways are the correct ways.

                       Listening to Christian music is part of those correct ways. I know some of you are saying that you don’t like Christian music and are Christian. Well then ask yourself this, are you really Christian? Or are you just saying that you’re Christian. Judge yourself and if you’re not Christian then ask God to change you because that’s the way it is.

                       I hope that all of you go to heaven. I hope that all of you learn who God is. If you want to learn more about God, if you want to get closer to God, if you want God in your life, then pray to him and God will guide you towards him.
