What does God fearing mean?

I know exactly what you mean when you hear someone say that something has to be “God fearing and bible believing.” It’s quite simple dear Watson. However, I understand if you weren’t raised in a Christian household and you just want a more in depth explanation about this.

            Let’s talk about this for a second.

God fearing and bible believing.

            When someone says that something needs to be God fearing and bible believing, it means that whatever you’re talking about needs to be in accordance of God’s will with all truth and sincerity in their heart.

            God fearing means that you seriously have a serious look on God.

            I’ll put it to you like this

            In the first few churches that there were, it was actually talked about in the bible as to who was holy and who wasn’t.

            There were people coming up to the first preachers of the world and they asked them, “can I go to heaven?”

            What happened is that these preachers had enough of all of their questions and they said in response to all of these questions, “why don’t you examine and judge yourself and see if you are truly Christian and truly are going to heaven?”

            Because I can’t judge anyone because I don’t know of their life story and I don’t know what they’re thinking.

            I can’t say for sure if you’re Christian or not because you could perfectly be a Christian and are struggling to believe in the truth, or you could perfectly not be a Christian and are just trying to look the part.

            So therefore, you examine yourself and decide yourself if something is from God using wisdom and the bible.

            I often times hear people telling me, “didn’t God leave the plants so that human can use them?” yes but that doesn’t mean that you are supposed to smoke marijuana!

            There are also specific directions as to how to use plants in the bible, in Leviticus actually. In those directions, they actually give directions on how to use marijuana. It states, “The plants with leaves and fruits are for eating and the ones with leaves and seeds are for eating.”

            The bible also states that you can eat animals as you wish, but God also left that you’re not supposed to eat pork for the Jews. I mean like if you’re going to use the bible, then read up about it first, don’t just hear something and assume it’s the only thing in the bible.

            Look at it this way, when you were young, your parents told you that you need to stick with things and never quit. However, if you start smoking, people tell you to quit all the time! And I’m pretty sure that even if your parents smoke, they will tell you to quit smoking. Why is it that your parents told you to never quit and yet they are telling you to quit smoking? Because the context is different. The same thing with the bible, you have to read it in context in order to understand what the bible verses are meaning.

Where does God fearing come from?

            The bible says, “The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord.” In this sense, Fearing God means that you are supposed to fear him like a father, because he is our father. You’re supposed to fear God in the sense of seriousness. You are supposed to treat God with all seriousness in your heart, mind, soul, and body.

            Everything that God speaks is truth.

            Therefore, if the church is supposed to be a place where you are to gain wisdom, wisdom needs to come from God. Therefore, the fear of the Lord is needed.

Bible believing

            When people say that you need to be God fearing bible believing. You have to believe that the bible is the truth. Of course there are some things that are supposed to be taken as metaphors, and also there are signs in the bible that we need to look at as a manner of symbolism, but we are to use wisdom to understand and interpret the things that are correct.

            I’ll put it to you like this, There is a verse in the bible that has Jesus saying, “Those who pick up the sword, shall die by the sword.” In this instance, he doesn’t mean it literally, it means as if though those who choose war as their life, will die as war.

            God understands that there are conscriptions all over the world, therefore, God cannot say that everyone who joins an army will die in the army because that’s not fair for those who don’t want to fight.

            Also, God understands our thoughts.

            I remember I had a friend who joined the military because he was an orphan, he had nowhere to go. His dad had just previously passed away and him and his brother were left alone with their stepmom and they did not get along.

            He saw the military as a stable career with job growth, along with resources that might have not been available to him if he didn’t have the military at his side. How can God apply that same rule to him when all he needed was food and a house.

            However, I had another friend who wanted to join the military because he thought it was cool. He wanted to be all bad and he joined the marines as an infantry.

            He’s still alive, but he got out after he realized that it’s not the life to live.

I’m not trying to bash the military

            I’m not trying to say that the military is bad, because I believe that there is some good to it. The military brings law and order to certain areas and can defend a nation from threats. And I’m not saying that everyone who joins the military because they think it’s cool is going to die. Because that would be unfair too.

            God also understands that there are positions in the military that need to be filled. Also, God would not have allowed the militaries in each country to exist if it wasn’t for a greater purpose.

            God doesn’t need soldiers on the battlefield, but God allows for soldiers to exist for all of their lives because he thinks that it is the right thing and who am I to judge what God thinks.

            So obviously this requires wisdom.

            Bible believing is basically this, Asking God to show you what the bible truly means.

            As humans, we are very silly creatures. We don’t know our left from our right unless it’s taught to us. Therefore, we must go to God to understand the deeper things of his word. So, pray to God to teach you and he will.
