How to be a DIY, Independent, Christian recording artist

Wow that’s a mouthful. Hello everyone and welcome again to the blog. Today we will be talking about what it takes to start out your career in the Christian music industry. I feel like there are a lot of people who are reading this blog post and are thinking to themselves, “German in order for me to do something, I really need things to be perfect.” I feel like there are a lot of other people who think, “German I don’t have talent for music, I can’t do it!”

            I am so glad that everyone is telling me these things and they are trying to figure out the way to actually become a Christian artist. Researching is one thing and if you’re a young person, then I got some valuable insight for you, if you’re an older person looking to get into the music field, I also got some good news.

            So sit down and grab a pen and paper cause it’s time for some schooling.

            Let’s get started.

Nothing will ever be perfect

            If you sit around and wait for everything to be perfect in order to start learning how to mix, master, play guitar, sing, write songs, etc. etc. You will never do anything in life.

            I’ll put it to you like this.

            When I first got my guitar, it wasn’t a Gibson, Fender, Taylor, Schecter, or Martin. No, it was a cheap Walmart guitar that my parents bought me for Christmas one year.

            They primarily bought that guitar because they just wanted me to quit complaining to them about not having a guitar. So, when they bought me that guitar, I played the mess out of that guitar because now it was my time to shine.

            I played that guitar until my fingers bled and I never looked back.

If things were perfect, I would have had a Gibson Les Paul Standard with a Marshall amp. I would have had a wide variety of guitar picks and capos. I would have had a tuner that sensed vibrations and not have to tune the guitar by ear.

            The same thing is with everything else that there is in life. If you wait around for things to be perfect, you will never do anything, simple as that. So, work with what you have and if what you have is nothing, then work hard at it until you can’t no more.

Talent is just hard work

            Sometimes we associate things with a God-given naturally born thing. In a certain sense that is true because music is a gift and those who do music do have a gift from God.

            However, God is not stopping anyone from becoming something that God would deem as cool or good.

            God can make you what you want. If you want to become a musician, you need to pray about it because God could call you to be a lot of other things.

            When I first started playing music, I remember I could not keep beat, I couldn’t sing, I couldn’t play guitar and the only thing that I had was work ethic, I could work hard.

            So, I worked hard at music and I wanted to make music my life. I wanted God to make music my life because music just seemed like a cool thing to me.

            I knew that it required hard work and I was willing to put in the hours to become the musician that I am today.

            Eventually people said that I had talent for music. But that didn’t come until years after playing the guitar and singing.

            Then, was I called a great musician. Then did everyone want to play with me at the music shows.

            So the key takeaway is this, if you want to become a musician, go make it happen and pray to God about it.

Now on to the music skills

You can do anything and make money off of the things that you do. If you want to become a Christian guitarist, pray to God about it and God will make you a Christian guitarist. If you want to become a Christian singer-songwriter, God will make you that if you just pray to God about it.

            Anything is possible with the Lord, you just need to pray about it. Pray to God about all of the things that you have on your heart including your career and go after it and chase it.

            God wants you to be happy, God knows the struggles that there are in life and God knows that you want to serve him.

            I remember back when I was a kid, all I wanted to do was to be a musician. So, I prayed to God to give me a guitar, and sure enough he gave me the guitar.

            It didn’t happen immediately, but it happened at just the right time.

            I trust that God was the one who was there for me in all of my days and I trust that God will be there for me throughout all of my future days.

            Trust in the Lord and trust in his timing and he will guide you.

If you’re already a great musician

            If you’re already a great musician, then it is obvious that God wants to use you for his purposes.

            Don’t be shy about the things that God want to do in your life.

            At this point in life, you need to pray to God now more than ever. Pray to him as to which direction to go and what you need to be doing because God can do amazing things.

            Trust that God can do amazing things and God will do amazing things.

            If you’re a Christian musician, then pray to God to guide you towards becoming the musician that you were destined to become. If you want to go to heaven, then believe in Jesus and through believing in Jesus is how you will go to heaven.
