Honestly, when you’re a modern Christian musician, you have a very few select of guitars that you want to work with. I know that there are a whole bunch of guitars out there, however, it’s not ideal to use a 7 string guitar for a Christian pop song.
Today, I’m going to go over a few different types of guitars and why Christian musicians should use them.
Let’s talk about this.
Acoustic steel string

The granddaddy of all pop guitars. The Acoustic steel string is probably the guitar that you want to use when you want the crowd to feel nostalgic, or sad, or maybe really play with the emotions.
The acoustic guitar is soulful and powerful all at the same time. It offers a rhythmic diversity that is fast and slow at the same time.
I believe that if you can make a hit song with an acoustic steel string, then you can make a hit song with any guitar.
An electric is good and all for really making the crowd start jumping up and down, however, you don’t always want to do that. Sometimes you just want the crowd to just sway back and forth in front of you so that you can make an impact in your words.
Strumming a few cowboy chords over a beat and singing along with it is really powerful. So try using an acoustic steel string guitar.
Solid body electric

The granddaddy of all electric guitars. In pop music, it’s the guitar that you hear in punk songs. It’s the guitar that you hear in metal or jazz.
Powerful, loud, and most importantly versatile in producing different types of sounds. It’s great for onstage performances because you can fill up a whole stadium with an electric guitar.
With the improvements in technology, you can fill up the stadium with an acoustic guitar too. However, the electric guitar has a different timbre than the acoustic guitar and that offers a different dynamic in and of itself.
I loved to use the electric guitar whenever I was performing a gig because of it’s noise. I love the distortion and I love punk music.
Therefore, the electric was the perfect instrument for me.
That’s it basically
That’s basically the types of guitars that you’re going to hear in modern Christian music. I know that there are a whole bunch of other guitars that you’re probably wondering to yourself, “Hey German, what about a Semi-hallow or a Nylon string?” Well I’ll be honest here, unless you’re playing Jazz or classical music, I don’t hear those two types of guitars being played in modern Christian music.
I’m not going to say that there aren’t any nylon string guitars in effect in modern Christian music, but I actually don’t think that I have heard any nylon strings in effect in pop Christian music.
Pop here refers to any music that is contemporary.
If you’re wondering about 12 string guitars or even 7 or 8 string guitars, I get it. But 7-8 string guitars were meant for metal. I mean like, the only places that I see 7-8 string guitars is metal music.
I personally have never seen a guitarist in Christian music use a 7-8 string guitar.
A 12 string is more prevalent but still seldomnly do I see it.
