The internet and the world is loaded with ways that people can become successful. Any one of those ways could work. However, for most of us, It’s difficult to fight the urge to be lazy, it’s difficult to work hard, overcome obstacles, or just plain get through life. There are kids who just don’t have a chance to make it as a doctor because they’re either too poor or too disadvantaged.
However, there is hope even for those kids.
Our hope is in God. With God, everything is possible to anyone.
Let’s talk about this.
The first step in becoming successful at anything is that you need God in your life.
There is without a doubt people who are “successful” and they don’t have God.
If you’re saying that you want to be successful in the terms of finances, it’s fine that you want to be successful. It’s okay to want money. However, the love of money is the root of all evil.
Don’t love money because money comes and goes and money can betray you.
The first thing that you need in life is God. There is nothing above God. You need God more than you need the food that’s on your plate, the air that you breath, the job that you have.
God has the ability to give you food, air, and a job. But more than that, God can give you things that money could never buy.
God could give you a spouse who is always faithful. God could give you peace. God could give you safety and a life worth living.
Anyone who has ever had significant amounts of money will tell you, money doesn’t make you happy.
It’s true that money has it’s perks. Having money isn’t a bad thing and can enable you to do things.
But it’s not going to make you happy and as a matter of fact, if you’re not careful, it could make you sad.
What makes us happy, is God.
God is the source of life in our world. God is the reason why some of us are so happy in the mornings and are happy for the rest of the day.
God can give you happiness. God can give you peace. If you want God in your life, God will always be in there.
What is success?
Everyone classifies success as different things. Some people classify success as having lots of money. Other people classify success as having achieved something in life.
When I got the current sales job that I have right now, I actually thought that I had found success. I said to myself, this job is awesome and I have benefits! How much better could it get?
Now, my blog is starting to gain traffic and I’ll be honest with you, the first month that I make money off of my blog, I expect to make around $4,000 that month from my blog alone.
It really isn’t much, but at that point I would have said that I’m successful at blogging.
Some people say that you’re not successful unless you’re making 6 figures a year from your blog.
Ehh, that’s a different success.
I know that I will get there, if I just put in the work, so all I have to do is work and wait.
Success as in finances
The bible has methods of getting rich. I’m not guaranteeing anything, but if you follow those methods, I believe that you will get rich.
I’m not saying that you’re going to get rich, I’m being clear here. Don’t misinterpret what I’m saying. I don’t know how you’re going to get rich, how long it’s going to take for you to get rich, I don’t know anything about your wealth in life.
But have faith in God and not me.
Here are some methods that the bible says on how to get rich
- Work hard
- Seek wisdom
- “Honor the Lord with thy substance…” that literally means honor the Lord with what you have. (in modern terms that means give to the church)
- Give to the poor
- Be patient (It literally says that good wealth comes after a long period of time) it also says that only the evil mind is hasty to get rich.
- There are a few other ways that you can get rich, listening to your parents is one of them.
- Don’t seek pleasure. The one who seeks pleasure is poor
Those are the bible concepts that I can think off the top of my head.
***I should say this though, there is a time and place for everything. Sometimes it’s okay to have pleasure. You shouldn’t give all your money to the poor because God gave you that money so that you could enjoy it too. God also gave you that money because he knows you need it. It’s okay to relax. You don’t need to work constantly all the time. God allows us to take a day off during the week because he knows that we need a break. So, everything in moderation, but more emphasis on the work side. I feel like I am going a little too far in this topic but I think I need to say it because some dude out there is going to get in trouble with his wife. If you’re with your wife, you guys have physical needs! Haha! So, don’t come back here telling me that you shouldn’t seek pleasure when your wife wants you. That’s NOT what I’m saying at all. I’m saying it’s good to wake up early, it’s good to make yourself uncomfortable for the work, hard manual labor is perfectly fine, and that pleasure just needs moderation. This topic needs wisdom so ask God for wisdom.
What if I want success in other areas of my life?
God is the one who gives success. This life is humbling but God is the one who gives us the things that we need and want. God wants us to love him. God wants us to live for him. God wants us to be happy.
So, seek God above all else and everything else will fall into place.
