Can Christians Eat Pork?

I wrote the title of this blog post and it said, “How should Christians live.” but I decided to title it “Can Christians eat Pork” and just write about Christian living altogether. Why? because I know that there are a lot of Christians out there who are wondering about this question. So, I’ll answer this question but of course I will talk about the other laws in the bible that people wonder about.

Anyways, back to the show

Hey everyone, Today we will talk about how Christians should live. I often hear people asking me, “The old testament says that you can’t do this or that so why do you do it?” I hear people asking me why I shave because the bible says to not shave and also why do I wear polyester and cotton at the same time when the bible says to not do that? 

Today, I will answer those questions with Bible!

First, Let’s go into our moment of silence.

 At this time, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray for all of the things in our lives. Take a minimum of 5 minutes and pray for all of the things in your lives. 

Now back to the show

The old testament

The old testament gives laws on what a person who fears God should do. It says so in leviticus and some of them in exodus. 

However, we find laws with the prophets as well.

The new testament

I believe it was Paul who said, “the law was meant to show you what is Godly and what is unGodly. It was not meant to cause divisions amongst people.” 

What happened was that during those times, Paul was being sending letters to different churches because the people there had differences amongst them. 

Some of the Jews who were Christian claimed that in order for a Gentile to become Christian, they had to practice circumcision, eat kosher, rest on the sabbath etc. etc. (Eating kosher means that you don’t eat pigs or other unclean animals described by God.)

And then there were some Gentiles who claimed that they didn’t want to do that and that they were wondering if that would separate them from God. 

So Paul came into the equation, the same guy who a fire lit up in front of him and gave him the power to talk in all sorts of tongues so he can spread the message to the world. And he said that the law was meant only as a guide to teach what is holy and what is not holy. It’s not meant to cause divisions amongst God’s people. 

What does that mean though?

That doesn’t mean that killing people is okay! That doesn’t mean that lying is okay. It means that we are to walk in holiness with God by obeying his laws. 

I know what you are thinking, “But German that kind of negates what you just said.” 

If you need wisdom, ask God for wisdom and he will give it to you. 

I personally cannot explain it enough because you are supposed to follow God’s laws. The laws about not being greedy, or not being lustful are still pertinent and very important. 

It just requires wisdom. 

Personally I eat pork and shrimp. I wear polyester and cotton. And I don’t practice circumcision. 

However, my church practices some of the old things in the old testament. Like they don’t eat pork, they don’t wear mixed clothing, but they don’t practice circumcision. Like I said, it requires wisdom to being able to follow the laws in a holy manner. These are the reasons why Christians can eat shrimp

There are loads of Churches out there who eat pork, wear mixed clothing and don’t practice circumcision.

I hope every Christian doesn’t practice circumcision.

But there are more laws than that, that require you to follow them. 

Working hard is one of them, not envying your neighbor, giving to the poor, love God above all else, reading your bible, etc. etc. are all things that we are supposed to do. 

The last thing that I’m going to say is…

Just pray about it. God knows the confusion that you have in your head. Pray about the things that you are unsure about and God will guide you.
