Hey guys! So right now I want to talk to you all about how God helps me to be a better musician.

God is the driving force for me to become a great musician and I hope that everyone reading this realizes that, that’s the truth.

Before we get into that, let’s have our moment of silence.

At this time, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray for all of the things that are in our lives. Pray to God that God will help you to become the best musician that you can possibly be. Take a minimum of 5 minutes and pray for these things.

Now back to the show

How God helps me to be a better musician

So I feel like a few bits of wisdom need to be shared with everyone before I get into the nuts and bolts of this blog post.

The first bit of wisdom is that with everything good in life, it takes time to build. It’s not like if you want a good paying job you’ll have it overnight.

Whether you have a degree or not, if you want to become a manager, it takes time to become a manager.

If you want to be a doctor, it takes time to get your degrees and do the necessary procedures in order to get that position.

If you want to be a tradesman, you have to be an apprentice first. You have to be an apprentice first and do the small things first and then you’ll move up to installing the systems by yourself. Once you know and the company knows that you can do things by yourself, then they will give you more responsibilities and promote you within the company.

So likewise with music.

Everyone starts out small. Everyone starts out humble and with no experience. You have to build yourself and your skills before anyone can really think of you as the expert in that field.

And it takes time, LOTS OF TIME. You’re not going to be an expert musician overnight. Not even Justin Bieber became the expert musician overnight.

And the reason why I’m saying all of this is because you know who taught me these things?

The bible might have talked about it, and as a matter of fact it does, but I wasn’t reading the bible too much when I first started to play the guitar, I only read bits and pieces of it.

And a bit that I read was, “Listen to your parents.”

And it’s funny because my dad always said to me, KEEP PRACTICING and YOU WILL GET GOOD.

And so, I didn’t believe in my dad too much, but what I did believe was in God. And apparently God ordered me to listen to my parents and my dad said, KEEP PRACTICING and YOU WILL GET BETTER.

They also said things like, “IT TAKES TIME TO BECOME A GOOD GUITARIST.” “IT TAKES TIME TO BECOME A GOOD MUSICIAN.” “DON”T BE IN A HURRY TO BE THE BEST BECAUSE THE JOURNEY IS ALL THAT MATTERS.”

AND ALL OF THOSE THINGS ARE TRUE.

So, I have NO ONE ELSE TO THANK, BUT GOD HIMSELF. WHY? Because in reality if it wasn’t for God, I wouldn’t have listened to my dad or my mom when they were telling me to be patient with the guitar and music.

Can I tell you how bad I was at music when I first started? I COULDN’T KEEP BEAT or RHYTHM. And can I tell you something else? The guitar is a rhythm INSTRUMENT. I know you see guitarists play the solos and leads in bands, but guitar is primarily a RHYTHM INSTRUMENT. Rhythm and beat go hand in hand.

I hear so many people tell me, I can’t play because I have no rhythm and Rhythm is something that you have or don’t have says Elvis Presley. HAHAHA that’s the boldest LIE THAT I HAVE EVER HEARD.

You can teach yourself how to have beat and rhythm, it takes time and practice but once you get it, you’ll get it. And it takes A LOT OF PRACTICE. I remember the first few years of me playing, I could follow along in the songs and keep up with an ensemble. But I didn’t fully grasp rhythm until I got into high school. That summer from 8th grade to 9th grade, I started playing a whole bunch of songs that focused primarily on rhythm, which is basically every pop and rock song that there is, and then I understood, not completely, but adequately rhythm.

And guess what? Everyone else goes through the same. There’s only a rarity of people who were born out of the womb with drum sticks okay!

And guess what? I’ve won AWARDS in music. Out of 2000 people, I won the most Outstanding music student award.

Not only that, But I skipped grades in guitar and music classes because I was that good. I’ve been called the best musician by a lot of people who know my musicianship.

So, don’t tell me that you can’t play music because you gotta practice. Literally practice is the thing that will make you shine.

But that was given to me by my parents, and God gave me the wisdom to listen to my parents.

Therefore, God makes me a better musician each day because his wisdom reigns above all else.
