Hey everyone! Today, I’m going to go over what are some modern Christian musician essentials that we need in order to survive in today’s world of Christian music.
Before we get any further into this conversation, let’s take a moment of silence.
At this time, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray for all of the things that are essential in our lives. Take a minimum of 5 minutes to pray for all of the things in your lives.
Now back to the show
Christian musician essentials.
So, it’s strange because the more advanced that we get as a society, we always seem to find new avenues to do things.
And to be honest with you, technology can be a double edged sword. Double edged in the sense that it can do very good to you and also do very harm to you.
If you don’t know how to manage it correctly, it can cause more harm than good.
And this list is not for those musicians that are already established, but rather, this is for those musicians that are just starting out. Or maybe have some experience in the music industry but are looking to get ahead in their lives.
Anyways, here are some things that are essential in the life of a Christian musician.
Music skills! HAHA

I know this sounds kind of redundant, however, as a musician period, you will oftentimes do things alone because you have a vision to do music a certain way.
And no one will want to do that vision with you unless you’re already established and writing good songs.
So, the reason why I say music skills is because you’ll oftentimes have to be able to program your own drums, bass, play your own guitar, sing lead and background vocals, etc. etc. You might even have to mix and master your own songs.
Mixing is one thing and it’s an art in and of itself. However, mastering isn’t for the feint of heart.
But if you’re a bedroom musician, there’s nothing wrong with buying a program for mastering. They really are inexpensive compared to the rest of the music equipment. I think a good one will cost you around the same as a good cheap guitar.
So, it would be essential for you to learn how to play the piano because you have no idea how soulful a song would sound with the piano playing in the background.
Or how gritty a hip-hop track sounds when you have the low keys of the piano banging a groove.
I know you might be good at one instrument, but in reality in this day and age, any musician needs to be able to do a multitude of things.
If you just know how to sing, I mean I guess you could go far, but only as far as how the record label sees you.
You really need to know how to play guitar and sing because then you’ll win the hearts of many.
Of course the more instruments you know how to play, the better.
If it was me and I was starting from square one all over again, I would learn the guitar, piano, and bass all in that order.
If you have the option, learn the drums too. Drums are absolutely essential to the rhythmic development of a song.
In an interview with a few of the world’s best songwriters, they talked about how absolutely essential is the songwriter/producer.
The songwriter producer has taken over the music industry.
The producer is in charge of making the song shine. And I’ve read music production books before and they say that the producer should be partly in charge of the lyrics. Why? Because the producer can change the song to the point where the lyrics come alive through the song.
It’s amazing what a good producer can do to your song.
Blog/YouTube Channel

Well some news to you, you need to spread the message of your music to the world somehow.
In this day and age, communication with the world could never be easier.
And guess what? It’s relatively cheap.
I’ve been told that businesses, professionals, CEOS, etc. etc. all have YouTube Channels and Blogs.
Well I don’t doubt it.
What happens is that through a blog or YouTube Channel, you communicate your message to the world.
If you’re a Christian musician, ultimately your message should be God.
But of course you’re trying to promote your Christian music. Therefore, you need to create a YouTube Channel or blog for your music so that way your message can spread.
It takes time to get your blog up and running because you need to post a lot of posts before you gain any traction, but trust me it’s worth it.
Don’t give up on your ideas just because of a slow start.
Remember how long it took for you to learn the guitar. Same concept.
Starting a blog or a YouTube Channel will also teach you a few things in life. It will teach you patience, determination, hard work, appreciation for what you do, appreciation for your fans. It will teach you to wait on God, it will teach you good things. And good things are worth the wait.
I remember back in the day, I was hardly getting 1 view every other day, but now, I am getting 7 or 10 views each day. My most successful month was 192 views.
And I remember something that I read online, it said, that your first 1000 views are the hardest views that you’ll ever get. The next 1000 views are easier and the next and the next. Until one day, you’re getting a thousand views a day every day.
Hey guys! Music theory remains a relevant topic for musicians today. Check out this blog post I wrote about music theory to help you out. Hope you like it
Socials

I love Twitter and Facebook. Facebook is a good way to spread long form messages. Twitter is good to give a brief update.
Either way, I love being able to make videos on both and share with everyone in my inner circle my songs and what I’m doing.
It’s not only that, But I find that social media is a good way to communicate the message of God to the world.
Sharing with the world that Jesus loves them and he wants them in heaven is not a joke. We as Christians need to be breathing those words any chance we get.
Why? Because our friends and fans need to know the truth about God.
They need to know the truth about life.
