Hey guys! So, today I want to talk about love and why it’s absolutely essential in Christian music.

I know what some of you are saying, “German that’s kind of cliche for a Christian don’t you think?” “I mean talking about love in a Christian song is like talking about what two plus two is to a room full of mathematicians.”

I know this sounds a little strange however I have valuable things to say about this and it will change your songs and lyrics if you just listen.

Anyways, before we get into this blog topic, let’s have our moment of silence.

At this time, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray for all of the things in our lives. Pray to God to help us to become the better versions of ourselves. Pray to God to help us to be the people that we want to be. Take a minimum of 5 minutes and pray.

Now back to the show

Love and why it’s still an important theme in Christian music.

You know, I sometimes hear people say things like, “Christian music is so bland. The lyrics are the same. The songs are the same, the taste is so tasteless.”

What happens is that they hear one Christian song and then associate that Christian song with the rest of the genre.

So there are three things wrong with this statement.

  1. There is a phrase that says in the music industry PERIOD. Meaning that everyone in the music industry says it: Rappers, Singers, Pop artists, Blues Artists, Jazz Artists, etc. etc. Everyone says the same thing and they say, “Whoever doesn’t like your music, doesn’t listen to it.” And it’s true! Because if they truly did listen to your music, then they would like it too.
  2. I have listened to Christian music for all of my life and guess what? I personally have probably heard the same phrase in a song maybe once or twice in a song. And trust me when I say that I know A LOT of Christian songs.
  3. What does mainstream music talk about? They literally talk nothing but SEX, DRUGS, ROCK and ROLL, and MONEY. And what? People still listen to every pop song that there is on the radio stations and they say, “Oh, it’s NEW and it’s something DIFFERENT.” Go ahead, listen and read the lyrics that are on your songs playlist and see if I’m not lying. Sure there are songs that talk about different things, but they all revolve around the same things: Heart break, Heart won, Love won, Drugs, sex, Rock and roll, money, Doing drugs, dealing drugs, killing people, depression, sadness, loneliness, gangs, etc. etc. What? Do you want those things in your head all the time? I mean sure they sound fun at first, but what happens when those consequences start to hit you left and right? I mean sex is fun alright until the next morning when you have to take the contraceptive pill, pray you don’t have Aids, pray that whoever you just had sex doesn’t have a boyfriend or girlfriend or WIFE OR HUSBAND, Pray that your HUSBAND OR WIFE DOESN”T FIND OUT THAT YOU HAD AN AFFAIR WITH THEM, you could possibly destroy your life, doing something “fun”

I know that the things that I mentioned above seem like fun, but if you ask anyone who really cares about you if they really are fun, they’ll be honest and tell you no they’re not.

And you have to trust in God that what he’s telling you is the truth.

So now back to Love

Love is something that we all need. We all need love in our lives because we are a social creature. We need to be loved by people and by some people more so than others.

But Love is something that God does the best. And how infinite is God’s love? It’s INFINITE. Meaning there are INFINITELY amount of ways to show how much God loves us.

Us as Christian musicians need to find those ways through song and lyrics. If you can’t write about how much God loves you, I’m sorry but you need to re-evaluate your life as a Christian artist, not being literal.

I’m not being literal when I say that, but I am talking in seriousness, Like love is something that God himself INVENTED. He invented it for us.

Like What are some ways that you could say how much you love God?

I could personally say, “God fires me up when I’m in the heat of battle.” “God fights for me when I can no longer handle.” “I love God so much, that the sun is not stronger than the love I have for God.” like it’s just a few ways!

And guess what there are a few thousand words in the english dictionary.

I know what some of you are saying, “But German, as a Christian musician, we should use words that are plain to the regular joe.” “That’s true, but we can use deeper words if we have it at our disposal.

Like I know that you’re not going to say, “The acceleration of gravity is 9.2 M/S^2, However the Lord is infinitely times greater.”

But you can say, “It’s feasible to believe that the impossible is reality.”

So like, no one was born perfect, but if you start to write lyrics for God, then you will get good at writing lyrics for God.

God is not imperfect and all of his words are perfect. And God says that it takes time to build something good. So, have faith in God that you are building something good when you start to write Christian lyrics, and you will have confidence to write Christian lyrics.
