How to overcome mental barriers in your Christian music career

Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to be sharing with you all a few tips on how to overcome those mental barriers that we all have. I know it stinks having to deal with all of those negative emotions and thoughts going through your head. That’s the reason why I’ve decided to write out to you, “How to overcome mental blocks in your music career.” 

Before we get into that, let’s have our moment of silence. 

At this time, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray for God to help us in our music careers. Let’s ask God to help us to follow him. We know as Christians that we are supposed to follow God with all our hearts and minds, therefore, we must pray to him to help us to become the Christians that we were supposed to be.

How to overcome barriers

So, there is a lot to be said about the mental barriers that we face as musicians. We often hear people saying things that aren’t necessarily lies. They say things like, “oh German you’ll never make money doing music, you should just quit”, “Music is not a real career, you can’t do that”, “you’re a starving artist” and you know that some of those things are true. 

Sometimes music doesn’t really pay the bills and it stinks because we believe in our music so much and it just hurts to have someone tell us that we can’t do it when we’re facing a big task anyways of being a great musician. 

However, think to yourself a few things…

1. Are those people musicians and have they done their research in how to actually have a music career?
2. Are your mental blocks in your head just you doubting yourself?
3. Quit thinking negatively! 

I know that a lot of things are against you. But a lot of things were against you when you tried to get your college degree! Or that high school degree! 

I mean you had to study, and A LOT, you had to work and buy books, you had to partner up with other people to work on projects, you had to sacrificed late nights to work on projects and essays, I mean it was a lot of work and you were up against the grain because you were a kid when you did it! 

I mean it takes a significant amount of wisdom for a kid to actually see the value in education because a lot of kids really don’t make it! 

And yet here you are with a degree or two later, wondering, can my music work? 

I’m here to tell you that YES it can! It hasn’t for me yet! But yes it can. 

And let me tell you why it can. And why, even though it hasn’t happened to me yet, I believe that a music career is completely viable. 

Proverbs 14:23 “in all labour, there is profit, but mere talk tends only to penury.” 

Do you know who said that? 

The wisest and RICHEST man that ever lived. He said that in all LABOUR, there is profit. 

So, don’t believe in yourself because obviously you can fail. But believe in God that God was the one who was telling the truth. Yes it is true and I believe it with all my heart that a music life is a completely viable option. 

Trust in God about that, and not me. Trust that through God, you will find your fortune. You just need to put in a whole bunch of work before you can reap the rewards!
