Hey everyone! So today I’m going to go over a few ways that you can fundraise for your Christian album. I know that in order to make a really good album you need a team of people, and in music, that means having the right kind of money to pay off the right kind of people.
This is the reason why I’m going to share with you all how to raise money for your album.
But first, let’s have our moment of silence.
At this time, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray for all of the things in our lives. Take this time and pray to God to help us to become the musicians that he wants us to become.
Now back to the show
Fundraising 101
So you could find a million ways to fundraise for your album on the internet, however, most, if not all of those methods require that you have something first, an audience.
Therefore, the number one thing that you need to do first before you go off and start making an album for people is to have people to sell it to!
I mean of course you should be songwriting and perfecting your craft first, but I’m talking about the business side of things right now.
So, find ways to build your audience, preferably on the internet, and then what you’ll do is market to that audience your fundraiser and hope that it will succeed.
With that in mind, I will say that it is going to take a lot of time before you go from 0 followers and views to $10,000 in cash for your album.
Alright now that we have a few basics out of the way, let’s talk about how to fundraise for your album.
Bootstrap your way
There is often a term used in music, and any other business, that says that some people bootstrap their way into success.
That means that they put their own money and work into their business.
So this is an option, it’s not easy, however, once you’ve already built up a following, why not use that money that you’re making on your blog or YouTube channel and use it towards recording your album? I mean, How difficult would it really be in order to do that?
Either way by the time your blog is a success, it would be making a significant amount of money so you could use it to record your album.
I know it’s difficult forking over your money into something that has the probability of not working, but business owners do that all the time and they carry all of the risk themselves.
They have a huge probability that their business will not succeed and yet they do it anyway! So like, don’t give up just because the task at hand seems difficult to do. Because it will be worth it.
Just make sure that you do all of your research on how to properly promote your songs and get attention from people. It’s not as easy as just putting up a blog post on the internet and waiting for your thousands of fans to listen.
No, you have to promote multiple times on your blog and YouTube channel, you have to get into podcasts, you have to perform live, you have to do a few things to promote an album so that your album is a success.
Crowdfunding
I know you guys have heard of Kickstarter before right? Well what it is it’s basically a big fundraising website. You create a website on Kickstarter and you ask people on there to donate to your cause.
And you can use that money for whatever is necessary: Laptops, mastering programs, speakers, guitars, lessons, T.V.s, houses, cars, flowers, anything!
The only thing is that you have to have a good reason for getting those things and you have to explain it to your fans.
And you will have to do those things.
In return, you will actually provide something for them.
Say for example if someone donates 40 dollars to your website. You will have a reward listed on your website for someone who donates 40 dollars and the reward will say something like, “If you donate 40 dollars, then I’ll give you a T-Shirt from this cause.”
If you really don’t want to spend your own money, then of course this is an option to take.
Your fans have the benefit of helping you to do more work, and you get the benefit of getting more money to chase your dreams.
It’s a win-win.
However, the money that you receive HAS to go into the things that you promised you would buy.
If you say that you’re going to get a laptop, you HAVE to get a laptop.
And there are people who are going to monitor what you’re going to get.
But I mean, if you say you’re going to spend it on recording time and the creation of your album, why not do this, it wouldn’t hurt right?
And to be honest with you, it’s my favorite way of making an album.
Sponsors
If people see potential in you or your music, then it’s very possible that you reach out to companies in your field and ask them to sponsor you.
Of course we’re talking about music, so you would reach out to music companies.
If you’re a DJ, find brands of turntables and ask them to sponsor you.
Again, this all revolves around how influential you are with masses of people so that equals how many followers you have and how many views you get to your blog.
I know for sure that the guitar brand Taylor guitars has a program for their roster of musicians. They actually help up and coming musicians to develop by providing them with different things. It could be strings, or it could be recording time. Either way, it helps all the more.
So if you’re a musician, and have a following on the internet, then reach out to sponsors and see if they’ll help you out.
There is another way, but I wouldn’t recommend them.
So these are the kind of “free” ways that you could fundraise for your cause.
The reason why I say free is because for Kickstarter, you’re going to have to spend some of the money that you receive on actually buying the merchandise that you’re trying to sell.
However it’s not your money to begin with, so it really was free technically.
But anyways, there is another way that you could fundraise for your music goals, but it’s not ideal to the starving artist.
You could take out a personal loan from the bank and use it to fund your music career. But of course you have to pay that back, and why would you want to do that?
I would say to NEVER take out a personal loan for your music career, however, I don’t know your circumstances and I can’t be sure of what you’re going through.
But really, I would say NEVER to take out a personal loan for your music career.
Why? Because a music career has so many risks and you really shouldn’t even be playing with daddy dollars before you even have an audience.
And by the time you have that audience, there really isn’t a need to take out a loan.
So that’s my reason.
