Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to go over why content is so important to the Christian musician.

In reality, you’re supposed to make as much content as possible in today’s society in order to develop a big following.

But before we get into any of that, let’s have our moment of silence.

At this time, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray for the things in our lives. Take a minimum of 5 minutes and pray for all of the things in our lives.

Now back to the show

Why is content so important?

Today, the internet has proven to be a very valuable resource to have. You can do so much with the internet.

A lot of it has to do with communication, but other parts have to do with making money and becoming influential.

For the sake of this blog post, I’m going to discuss why it’s important for a musician to make content. Of course anyone who has their own business should really start their own blog in order to get more customers.

But for the sake of this, let’s just stick with music.

Anyways, back to what we were saying, music is creating content on it’s own.

We want to showcase to people our original ideas through song. Not only were we as musicians designed to create content for a living but in a way, it makes sense for us to create more content by either doing videos or writing in a blog.

It’s hard work, but well worth it in the end.

However, content does more than just tell people what our ideas are. They also better our SEO, communicate with the people that are interested not just about our products but about who we are, and create a relationship amongst our fans.

Like I said before, blogging and YouTube is a form of communication. And ultimately the number one thing that social media, “gurus”, say to do is to develop relationships with the people that you’re going to be selling to.

This is great because YouTube and blogging are great ways which you can develop a relationship with.

In my personal opinion, content also provides substance for a person to digest from you while you’re off busy doing other things.

It keeps your fans busy and vested in you.

How much content should I put out?

As MUCH AS YOU CAN!! There are actually a few people on the internet who say that the number one thing, if not the only thing, you need to do in order to make a following is to put up content.

Whatever medium you decide to make content on, you have to make content and A LOT of content. That’s the way that you’re supposed to build a following, by putting up content.

And you know what? I promoted on twitter or facebook maybe 10 times my entire career with this blog. And I have seen maybe like 20 views out of my 1,007 views that I have come from Facebook or twitter.

Which means that the rest of my traffic is coming from other sources.

However, the only other source that I have that’s generating traffic, is putting up content.

Literally, almost all of my traffic has come because I decided to put up content and work really hard at making good content.

I’m not going to lie, It’s taken quite a while to get 100 to 200 page views a month, but hey it’s working!

If you’re familiar with Gary Vee or Income school, they are social media experts who preach that content is still king.

I know that there are a few other people out there who claim that content is not king, primarily Neil Patel.

Of course he says that you have to make content, but he also says that it’s not the most important thing that is out there.

Personally, I saw a big spike in my views when I posted up a 2,200 word blog post one of these days.

And I saw a big spike when I posted up another two 1,200 word blog posts on the same day. Literally I got 30 views within a 24 hour timespan when I made that 2,200 word blog post.

And I got 10 views when I made those 1,200 word blog posts.

So like, I know for sure that content is king. Not only professionals agree with it, but also I’ve seen it first hand.

Some people find success with their blog through other means. They find success through Pinterest, which is a big player for promoting your blog. However, I have also researched that those people that promote on Pinterest have an extremely active Pinterest strategy.

I currently don’t have the time and luxury to start something new when the thing that I have going on is working.

But hey, if you can do it, then do it.

Okay German, You’ve sold me on the fact that I’m supposed to create content, but how do I make massive amounts of content, frequently, and that is good?!?!?!

This is where the grind comes in.

Do you know what the grind is? The grind is where you work your day job and work your side gig in the hopes that your side gig will take off one day.

It’s hard and it’s not for the feint of heart.

Now during this stage, you’re going to probably be working 40 hours a week at your daytime job and 30 – 40 hours a week on your blog.

I know that sounds like work and toughness, but no one said that good things were easy to come by.

If you’re a kid, great news! You only have to go to school, and do your homework, and then work on your blog. However, I can’t stress this enough,  Don’t fail at SCHOOL! School is very important and even though I don’t have a college degree, when I get paid from this blog, I’m going back to school, TRUST ME!

But the grind will be worth it! Trust me that it will be worth it!

I’m talking like I have made money already from this blog, which I haven’t. But I know that it will be sweet because of one thing.

God promises that his promises are sweet. And it also says in the bible that, “his blessings have no sorrow”. So I know that it’s going to be sweet because I’m working hard, I’m doing his literal will, I’m doing his will for my life, and I’m praying about it.

If it was for anything else, I would honestly say that I don’t know why I would do it.

But you want to know exactly how on earth is someone supposed to make dozens of massive articles on the internet a week, right?

Well I’ll tell you my approach and if you want to take it, then go ahead and take it.

Keep in mind that in my 6th month blogging, I made 126 views that month.

So let’s get into it.

My method for doing this blog

When I first started this blog, I knew myself. And I knew that I did not have the discipline or the strength to force myself to write in a blog for 8 hours a day.

I didn’t have the stamina, I didn’t have the will power, it seemed like a mountain to climb, I saw no hope in my blog other than it being something for fun, etc. etc.

So what I did was I paced myself.

I told myself that I basically have no professional writing experience and that I still wanted to do this blog. So I said to myself, I’m going to start out small. And I said to myself, “I’ll start out writing 20 minutes to 40 minutes a day on my blog and if I can get 6 months of blog work done, then I’ll bump that up to an hour each day.”

I started off slow because that’s the real way that it’s supposed to be done.

Also, just start off by writing easy things to write about. I know you want to write things that are “revolutionary.” but give yourself a break! It’s difficult for big time content creators to make something revolutionary, let alone a rookie whose never played in the major leagues.

Some of you might not need to only write for 20-40 minutes a day. Some of you might want to jump 8 hours a day right from the jump.

And that’s fine, I’m not against it. I’m just saying what I would do if I didn’t have any writing experience in me and I was starting over again.

I was going to pace myself because I wanted this really badly.

Sure enough I made it to the 6 month mark, and sometimes I managed to write an hour a day on my blog, but most of that times, I was writing 20 minutes each day.

That 6th month mark was so sweet! I loved each second off of it. My Lord had provided 126 views that month. And you know what? That’s all I needed.

Keep in mind that if the Lord wants you to have more, he will give you more. Trust that he will give you more if you deserve more in his eyes.

So I got 126 views that month. And then I said to myself, “okay I’ve reached my goal of blogging consecutively for 6 months now it’s time to bump it up.”

And so I started writing for an hour a day.

Shortly after I took a break. But when I picked it up in January again, it’s when I went diesel on it and I was writing in it for 2 to 3 hours a day.

And again I said to myself, “If I can write for 2 to 3 hours a day, then I’ll bump it up to 4 hours a day and write bigger content.”

Right now I’m getting hundreds of views a month and I’m starting to write bigger content. I have written just this past week alone like 5, 1,000 word blog posts and 1, 2,200 word blog post.

Whether you decide to work like crazy at your blog from the start or not, it’s going to take time to develop your blog.

There have been instances where I have seen people make a lot of money from their blog in really short time frames.

However it’s rare.

Most people will not find that success, it takes a lot of time for most people.

The only reason why I would say that you need to work hard at your blog from the start is for a few reasons:

  1. You’re a business owner and acquiring new customers is already part of your job. You need to think of the long term effects of your marketing campaigns and blogging should definitely be a part of your marketing campaigns.
  2. You write at an expert level or close to that. You might have been writing for a while in your college English club or maybe you’ve been songwriting, or maybe you’ve been writing some form or way for a while and you actually have the stamina and knowledge to construct great pieces of article.
  3. You want blogging as a hobby to turn potentially into a full time income, however you have a decent job where you can sustain yourself and your family. Most likely is that you’re not going to get paid from the blog anytime soon, so if you want to start a blog but already have a full time job and are just looking for some side income, blogging is a great  way to make a little extra dough, it will just take time to do it.

I personally don’t think that blogging should be all of your priority when you start being a musician. Because in reality, it’s a big risk and there are other things that you need to do. You could go to college or work a job. It’s when you start seeing success in that blog that you need to start feeding it more.

There are also certain patterns that you should look out for as a blogger.

Like there’s a pattern that say that if you make around 150 blog views in your 6th month , then you’re on the right track to making a full time income within the next 18 months.

There’s another pattern that say that you should watch out for when your blog is getting around 100 views a month, which is what is happening to my blog, and when that starts to happen, write a WHOLE BUNCH MORE. The reason is because you have seen what helps to your blog and now it’s time to add volume to it now.

You have already made an etch in google’s algorithm, but they still are seeing if you can do it.

So it’s not the time to give up yet.

The thing is when you start to receive 100 views a month to your blog, that traffic is going to help your SEO significantly more than the traffic that you were getting when you had little to no views. And since that traffic is going to help, then next month’s going to be better, and next month, and next month, and so on and so forth.

So, once you start getting hundreds of views a month consecutively, then it’s time to ramp up the operation.

I should say this, don’t count me on anything. Even though my blog has followed that pattern of success that everyone talks about, it does not mean that it’s going to happen to you. I’ll say this again, it all depends on a whole bunch of factors of how successful your blog becomes.

I actually made another music blog because I was having such success with this blogand I wrote in it for about 3 or maybe 4  months, and I got 1 view in all that time.

I couldn’t believe it! 1 view in 3 to 4 months! I made 10 views on my Christian blog my first day blogging! That goes to show you that it’s not that easy to make a blog and it takes a lot of work in order to do it.

And it all depends on a whole bunch of factors, one of them is the niche that you’re going to talk about.

So, I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, I’m not guaranteeing anything!

And don’t think that it happened to me for any reason. I have “failed” at more than 7 blogs in my life. And you know what? This is number 8. Don’t get discouraged at anything, try and try again because that’s the right thing to do.

Broadcast

I sure hope that I have been an inspiration and a hope to you all. Remember to try and try again. I know it can get discouraging at times but if you fail once, then you need to pick yourself back up and ride again!

Thank you all for listening in on this blog post. Remember to pray, read your bible, go to church, and love God above all else. Like, comment, share, subscribe, and I will see you all next time.
