Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to go over some basics in Music marketing for a Christian musician. Essentially, it’s the same type of marketing that you do for any other genre of music, it’s just it has God in it, like it should have.

Before we get into that, Let’s have our moment of silence.

At this time, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray to God to help us to become the musicians that we are supposed to become. Take a minimum of 5 minutes and pray for these things.

Now back to the show

Theoretical

So there are a whole bunch of theories that revolve around the creation of a following. From getting engaged and loyal readers to fans that listen to your music nonstop.

I will post up the sources for all of my information so you can go and read about it on your own.

There are a few things in mind that you should do first before you go out and try and “conquer” the world, that’s a joke.

Theory has the basis of each and every one of our marketing plans. So let’s go over some theories.

Content is king

This is by far my most favorite theory of all time. God teaches us things but those are not theories, they are facts and absolute truths. So that’s why I’m not saying that what God teaches me is a theory because it’s not a theory, it’s the truth. But this is my favorite theory. What it is saying is that the only thing that you need to do in order to develop a following on the internet, is to create content.

I know, I know, I’ve said this before. But hear me out! There is a little method to my madness when I repeat things on the internet. What happens is that us as humans are very repetitive. And it actually takes us a little bit of time in order to pick up some things.

Something as complicated as developing a following doesn’t need to be so complicated. It’s just that you have to create content.

And the reason why I say it again is because I know that there will be someone out there who reads my blog posts and have the idea in their head and will go out and try it. And they will consistently stay on their blog for years on end and when they achieve success, they will remember me and what I said.

The point is to help people, for this instance. I want people to have the same bits of wisdom that I have so that anyone who is looking to start a blog will find the correct information.

There are multiple sources out on the internet that say the same thing that I’m saying.

Just to name a few: Income School, Gary Vee, and of course the most powerful wordpress.com.

WordPress powers 40 percent of all websites that are on the internet. And of course they get emails from people asking how to get more traffic so they decided to put up an article about it on their own blog.

And they put it up and said, I’m paraphrasing here, There are many theories on the internet about how to actually gain a following. None will contest that blogging regularly good posts that have a few well chosen tags, is the best way to go.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t believe that the first time that I read it. However, I actually got certified in social media management and in that certification, they said the same thing!

So basically that authenticates the power of content creation.

So, creating content is what you need to do. Just make sure that it’s good content. If it’s helpful then yeah post it up. If it entertains, then post it up. If it educates, then post it up.

Look up how to create great blog posts and you will find it.

Look up how to write better and you will find it.

I know for sure that Purdueowl is a great resource for all who are looking to improve on their writing.

Now here is some bits of wisdom and a harsh reality check. The first few blog posts are probably going to be bad.

Not trying to crush your dreams, just saying that it take a learning step to actually learn how to write good posts.

It takes some more effort to being able to write often and consistently. And it takes some more effort to being able to make up content for your platform.

But anyways, once you have the rhythm and groove for writing great blog posts, nothing will hinder you from writing and as a matter of fact, you’ll probably go days where you want to take a break but you’ve built up the habit of writing and now you can’t stop!!

It’s not a vice, it’s actually a good thing. The lord is blessing your hands with work and he is pushing you to write more often. Also, the Lord is making it easier to do the work. Once you have that bug for content creation, it’s easier to work. I’m not saying that it’s going to be a walk in the park each day because each day is a new challenge. But I am saying that it will get easier.

Of course it’s good to take breaks so be careful about doing it overboard. Take breaks when needed, but work hard when you do work.

Here is a link to a book that I recommend all music marketers to read.

Paid advertising

So paid advertising is something that I almost never talk about on this blog. Why? Because I feel like the more effective way to promote products is through content creation, see above.

More people engage and buy from people who write in blogs and post videos on YouTube channels and engage on social media.

There is a study that says how much better content creation is for a business. The report says something ridiculous in the sense that it is ridiculously better to blog than it is to advertise.

There is another study that says that people who focus their marketing efforts on content creation  see a significantly higher ROI (return on investment).

If you  don’t know what ROI is, basically if you put in 100 dollars into advertising and you get 200 dollars after your marketing efforts, then you have made a 100 dollar ROI or a 200% ROI (return on Investment) it’s the money that you receive after your marketing efforts.

Of course if you’re on this blog post, you know that marketing is all about acquiring new customers or clients.

And paid advertising is a form of marketing that can work, HOWEVER, usually it’s best if you have a large budget to invest.

And usually the larger the budget, the better it is.

Some people might ask, “but how much budget do I want?”

Literally the skies the limit on the budget.

I have heard that if you have a product of 20 dollars then basically you need a budget of 2,000 dollars in order to have a successful product launch.

HOWEVER, I say this again,  that’s a lot of money to spend for someone who usually doesn’t know what they’re doing. Who hasn’t done any market research on a product that isn’t even considered to be marketed correctly.

The thing is that you’re supposed to approach music lovers to try and sell your music to.

I know a lot of people out there say that they are music lovers, but how many of them actually listen to music nonstop throughout the day? How many of them play an instrument? Do they have a good speaker to blast music on? These kind of things are something that you need to know about your people you’re marketing to.

But back to the money issue, it’s a lot of money for a 16 year old kid who’s parents make 50k a year on average. It’s a lot of money for almost 90 percent of the population of the world.

Therefore, we have to break through the barriers another way. We have to find a cheap alternative that will return lower investments at a higher rate.

That’s content creation.

Content creation is trading time and effort for money. You invest time and effort, you get money in the end.

I mean in theory paid advertising can work, but it requires planning for your plan.

You have to make a business plan on how you will get customers and promote your products. And also the business plan itself will take money to make, and it could be alot of money.

The reason why you make this business plan is because there are a lot of risks with investing 2,000 dollars into advertising. You have to be sure that your investments are going to work. That’s why you do this market research.

And it could cost a lot of money. But hey if you want to do paid advertising, that’s up to you.

Just try and not waste money. I would hate to see any of you try and make an ad for the internet and just see 10,000 dollars go to waste.

Summary

So yeah! Content creation is what I recommend. Look down at these studies for more information about why content is so much better than paid advertising .

***Last thing I want to mention is that one of the sources curses. I know this is a Christian blog but we’ve all learned from someone who curses. And I know that you guys know that just because someone curses doesn’t mean that they don’t have anything valuable to say. So forgive me for the cursing but just learn the parts that are good.
