Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to go over guerilla marketing. Before we do that, let’s have our moment of silence.

At this time, I would like us to ask God to help us to develop our music careers. Take a minimum of 5 minutes and pray to God to help us to become the musicians that he wants us to become.

Now back to the show

Guerilla marketing

What is Guerilla marketing? Well guerilla marketing is basically door to door sales. You are going up to each and every body in your target audience and are soliciting your products or services to them.

It’s tempting to do that, but there are pros and cons to absolutely everything that you do.

Let’s talk about the pros and cons of doing guerilla marketing.

Pros

Guerilla marketing can actually get you your first sale. Actually it was through guerilla marketing that an artist wanted to use my song in one of their albums.

I was reaching out to people within my niche and I found someone who liked my song. They said it was awesome and they wanted to use it in their album.

It didn’t go through, but that was because I was ill prepared for that task.

Also, I have seen success stories come up from hip-hop producers who produced a song and then marketed it to different people on the internet.

They said that they sold to masses amount of people from the beginning because they knew how to market their products to audiences.

A good example is Lifestyle. Lifestyle is a hip-hop producer who makes videos for a website called beatstars.

Beatstars is kind of the middle man when it comes to selling beats. They’re not the producers but they do have the contracts and the format to actually sell your beats to people.

Different people all over the world go to beatstars in order to sell and buy beats.

And this guy, Lifestyle, says that you can sell your beats on beatstars using guerilla marketing techniques.

It’s cool!

But he’s not the only one who says that it’s possible.

A whole plethora of producers have found massive success and money from selling their beats online by using guerilla marketing techniques.

Another good reason why guerilla marketing techniques are ideal is because through guerilla marketing, you actually develop relationships with people.

Developing relationships is actually the best thing that you can do in order to build up a following and develop an audience.

When you do guerilla marketing techniques, you find out more about the person. You see what their interests are. You see how they make things. You see more about that person.

Therefore, your knowledge about your audience increases as well. Which is ideal for your marketing plan.

Guerilla marketing is also a little bit faster than standard marketing. In the sense that you can see massive results from your marketing efforts in little time. By little time, I mean relatively little time. You’re still going to have to put in hours of work into marketing before you get a sale.

Cons

Guerilla marketing is often frowned upon. If you go on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook and start promoting your stuff to the world upon each and every account, it’s more than likely that you’re going to get banned and your account is going to get suspended.

You’re going to have to do more than just say to 100 people, “Hey I’m a new producer and I have a beat that you might like.”

That’s not what you’re supposed to do.

You’re supposed to play it more cooly. Say things like, “Hey I saw one of your videos and I thought it was cool, how long have you been making music?”

Or you can say, “Hey I heard your song on Itunes and I thought it was sick, what made you want to think of those lyrics?”

And start off your conversation like that, remember relationship building is a must.

Another con is that guerilla marketing might not work for some people.

In order for any type of marketing to work, you need to have a large amount of people that you can sell to.

If you make 70s, new age, disco, funk beats, I would say that guerilla marketing might not be for you. Of course I’m exaggerating the circumstance, but it’s things like that, that you need to consider when making beats.

I know for sure that a lot of Trap artists are on Instagram, therefore, if you make Trap beats, it would be a wonderland for you. However, if you make 2000s hip-hop beats, I’m not sure if that would coincide nicely, you might have to look at other places in order to sell your beats.

And I’m just using beats as an example, I’m saying in order to market your song or music, then you’re going to have to find your audience and market to them correctly.

The last con that I’m going to say is that though you might see your first 10 sales through guerilla marketing, building up your clientele or fanbase through guerilla marketing is going to take even more time than any other type of marketing.

Why? Because you’re going up to each and every individual person in your realm and asking them if they like you.

In reality Guerilla marketing was first developed when you have a team of like 10 people going door to door in a neighborhood. At that instance it would be very effective for a company because they would get leads from at least 3 people.

And if they make one sale of 20,000 dollars then they have enough justification to keep the guerilla marketing program going.

But if it’s you by yourself, trying to sell 1 beat of 30 dollars to 15 people, I mean you could get sales, but you’re going to have to build your audience through other ways too, like a blog or a YouTube channel.

So weigh out the pros and cons yourself, and you’ll get to where you need to be.
