Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to give some tips on how to make more songs, faster.
Before we get into that, Let’s have our moment of silence.
At this time, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray to God to help us in our music endeavors. Take a minimum of 5 minutes and pray for this.
Now back to the show
How to make more songs faster
So this is a completely valid question to ask for when you have deadlines and timeframes in which you need to work in.
However, when you first start out, quality is more important than quantity.
When you’re signed to a record label or are working with other people, they are going to want to see that you can produce at the rate that you claim that you can produce.
Also, your fans want to see that you have a constant stream of great songs coming out.
So it’s important to make a decent amount of songs in a good amount of time.
It’s not like you will take 10 years of your life preparing to write an album. That simply cannot be the case either.
So without further ado, here are some tips that I would give to anyone in order to make more songs, faster.
- Know your basics. The basics need to be mastered before you go off and do something as complicated as writing a song. You need to know the differences between all of the concepts that music is about so that way you can build upon your natural emotions and voice. It is often said that you learn rocket science in order to teach elementary school math. Well I believe that the same concept should apply to music. You need to have learned rocket science in music before you go off and try and make a career out of music. Even though pop, rock, and hip-hop all have basic similar and easy elements, there will still be times in your music career where you will be asked to do things that are outside of your realm. You are going to have to go above and beyond what your job entitles. And of course all of those things are built upon the basics of music: beat, rhythm, melody, harmony, and of course, you are going to have to be a great musician to make different melodies and harmonies. So know your basics
- You need to be a good songwriter first. If you are trying to write songs, you need to have spent some time writing songs slowly first. And then try and write songs faster. The reason is because most of us aren’t fast songwriters at all. Actually most of us take a lot of time in order to write a great song. And of course you can make around 3 songs in a day, but you have to spend other time doing other things such as practicing your instruments, your voice, producing, mixing, and of course marketing. And the reason why I say that is because all of those things will take time to do and you can’t focus all of your efforts on songwriting because even though we like to write songs, we just simply can’t do that alone, at least not at the beginning of our career. So, I would say that you need to have spent a few years writing songs first before you were to try and ramp up the production.
- Take your time. Writing music takes time. When someone releases an album, they have released an album that took probably a whole year to come out with. Maybe around like 3 months to actually write the songs, but another few months producing, mixing, and mastering. And that’s not even all. It takes other instrumentalists to being able to write great songs. Other musicians who know just as much if not more about music than you do. So, take your time, don’t be in such a rush to write your music. You have time to write your music. I mean even some artists take a few years to write an album. People usually release albums between a few years anyways to promote their albums with touring.
Now that, that’s said, here is a reason as to why writing fast might not be the best thing to do for your music.
- It could become your worst work. It takes a lot of effort to come out with an album. A lot of resources too. By that I mean, manpower, money, late nights, promotional efforts, etc. etc. You want to make sure that your work is your best work so that your fans can enjoy it! Why would you want to rush something that could potentially cost thousands of dollars to make in the hopes of selling it? It just doesn’t make any sense.
Here is a reason as to why you might WANT to write songs FASTER.
You might just be trying to get ideas down on paper. Sometimes we really get stuck in writing and we need to find a way to just keep the ideas flowing. There’s even a songwriting challenge where you make 20 songs in a 12 hour timeframe in order to get down as many ideas as possible. This way, you can look back at those ideas later on and figure out what you want to do with them.
But honestly, if it’s anything other than that, I would just say to take your time on your music.
If you have deadlines to consider, I mean I guess I would consider writing songs faster. But why not start earlier? If you start earlier, you will end earlier and make greater things. Afterall why did you decide to get into this business in the first place? It wasn’ so you could not have a good time writing songs right? Right. You did it because you enjoyed songwriting and performing your music.
