Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all what is the best way to start your Christian music careers.
Before we get into it, let’s have our moment of silence.
At this time, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray to God to help us to become the person that he wants us to become. Take a minimum of 5 minutes and pray for this.
Now back to the show
The 10 best ways to start your music career, the intro.

So, I am assuming that you are an expert musician in one or more disciplines. In essence, this blog post is aimed to be read by those musicians who are already at the top of their game.
However, if you are new to music, this will ultimately help guide you to have a successful music career.
It will give you some tips on what to do if situations arise.
Without further ado, let’s get started.
The business side, the basics.

So there are a plethora of people out there who claim that they can get you heard by the majors.
There are plenty of services out there that will put your music up on Spotify or Apple Music.
However, here is some wisdom.
And if you learn anything from this blog post, know this fact. And I’m going to put it in stars all of the things that you need to know.
***Everyone in the music industry is looking to get paid.
However, if you want to get paid, you need fans and lots of them.
You need hardcore fans that buy every merch that you sell. You need people that like your music. You need to be a great musician and an excellent communicator.
Therefore, it’s essential that you develop a following on the internet some way or some how.
And you might think that you are a great musician and that’s great and all, but you have to really be honest with yourself, would you buy your own music? If the answer is no, then you know what you need to work on. So the main message is this: get a following.***
There are many ways that you can get a following on the internet. Almost all of the social media’s, including blogging and YouTube, require that you post consistently in order to rank higher on their website.
For a blog, it’s recommended that you blog 3-4 times a week. For a YouTube channel, I think it’s once a week.
However, personally I think that blogging everyday is the ideal target that you should aim for.
I actually see strong results coming in from blogging once a day.
I’m currently not making any money, but I do see results.
I will let you know in the future about how the YouTube channel works out.
So, here is some more wisdom. I’m going to put the wisdom in between the stars.
***In order to get followers on the internet, you need to post up consistently on whatever medium you’re trying to get a following on.***
Now, I’m not saying that it’s guaranteed that you’re going to start receiving views and follows and etc. etc. if you do just that.
What I am saying is that it takes time, dedication, and effort in order to build your following. So start by posting up and in a few years, you might have something great.
Of course, it takes a learning curve in order to learn how to create really great posts. So take your time on this journey because it is hard work and you will have to pace yourself with it.
And to be honest with you, there are a few things that you could do once you’ve built up a following.
Deciding to not sign with a record label. Madness or Genius?

For one, you could decide to not sign with a record label.
And to be honest with you it’s more work than being signed to a record label, however, you have more peace than being signed to a record label.
In a record label, the label gets a ridiculously huge cut from your EVERYTHING.
That means that they get a huge cut from your album sales, merch sales, ticket sales, streaming sales, single sales, etc. etc.
Anytime you make money, the label itself get’s between 70 – 80 percent of a 10 dollar album.
Which means that for every 10 dollar album that you sell, you will make between 2 – 3 dollars while the label gets between 7 – 8 dollars.
Yeah it’s not fun.
Also, the label owns your music.
Which is something that Taylor Swift fights constantly in court. She wants Artists to own their music.
There are some minor advantages to getting signed with a label.
A label provides resources in order to make your music really great and to sell as much of it as possible.
A label can provide great songwriters so that you can collaborate with on your projects. They have the best producers, mixing engineers, mastering engineers, greatest publicists, managers, lawyers, etc. etc.
So they can assist you with your music career.
However, it’s an awfully steep price to pay.
If you just spend a little more time (maybe around a few more years) you could actually learn how to develop your own network of people who you can count on to mix, master, help you songwrite, produce, etc. etc. and they can be great!
And also, in those few years, you could amass a large following enough to support you and some more.
I have heard of stories of independent musicians who were making 100K a month (which means that they were millionaires) and they were never signed to a record label.
And they got into a record label because they thought it was going to make them more money.
However, once they saw that the record label was barely paying them, they went back to indie.
And I’m not going to lie, it takes a lot of work to build a business from scratch, but it’s definitely worth it and patience in this game will benefit you more than you know.
As of right now, I don’t want to sign to a record label. However, I don’t know if they flash a million dollar check in my face, how will I react?
I know that, that’s an intimidating tactic that they use for starving artists.
The next thing you can do once you have a following.

Start selling your music.
The point of getting a following is essentially to make an audience and start getting sales and listens.
It takes consistent work, but muscle on through with it and you will reap the benefits of all the work that you’ve put in.
And that’s it
Now if you want to use your blog or YouTube channel as a way of getting signed to a record label, it’s great and all but just be warned of all the consequences that are associated with being signed to a label.
It can be worth it to be signed to a record label, but it’s hard.
You might be able to use your blog or YouTube channel to leverage how much you’ll get paid from the label, but don’t expect much.
Doesn’t a label help you to get heard by people?

Label’s do have a network of radio stations, people, bloggers, critiques, venues, and festivals that can get you heard.
However, you can do all of those things yourself.
Know that gaining your own exposure is what’s needed in the first place to even get signed to a record label, so why would you sign to one when you already know how to do it?
Don’t be scared to fail because failure is all a part of life.
Let this all be a life lesson. When you fail, you learn how to do things correctly.
Yes a label can help you to get heard but there are a few things you should know about that first.
- You need to have already been heard by a multitude of people before you get signed by a record label.
- They can get you more exposure but you can still be a flop.
So like, yes they can get you more exposure, but the thing is that you need to have created a buzz around your music first.
And it better be a good buzz.
I’m talking about you sold maybe a thousand albums in a single night.
Or maybe have won some awards that are creditable.
That’s in essence how you get signed to a record label.
So if you’re already selling out shows and albums, why not just do it yourself and see it all the way through right?
That’s my main reason why I don’t want to sign with a record label.
It used to be extremely difficult to get heard by people, but now, anyone can do it with the internet.
