Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all some insight as to know when you should hire a producer for your music.
Before we get started, let’s have our moment of silence.
At this time, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray to God to help us to become the person that he wants us to become. Take a minimum of 5 minutes and pray to God to help us to work hard and to stick with our tasks day in and out.
Now back to the show
Start off small

I am a big fan of starting off small. The reason is because the bible states to start off small.
It doesn’t say that exactly, but it states that you are to be “Humble.” It also states that before “pride” comes “humility”. Therefore, we have to assume that before we have the pride of being a wealthy individual, we must go through some difficulties and building phase first.
The way you start off small is by just going out and sharing your music with your friends.
Also if you really want to start working on your music business, then start off with a blog or YouTube channel.
Either way, you’re going to go through a phase where there will be no money coming in. You are going to go through a phase where it’s going to grind and it’s going to hurt, but ultimately, that’s God’s way of doing things and that’s the best way of doing things.
So, since you’re starting off small, then for the first few albums that you release, you need to self-produce the album.
I know it’s hard and kind of embarrassing showing people the music that you fully produced and published, but trust in the process that this is the right move.
At this point in time, don’t stress about how perfect the album is. Even though you should try your absolute best to make a great album with great content, it’s not necessary for all of the bells and whistles to be perfect.
I know that sounds very contradicting compared to what other people say, but the reality is that you’re probably at home wondering how you can afford melodyne or Ableton, How you’re going to afford a great microphone, or mixing speakers, or maybe that great laptop that’s going to record all of the music for you,
Well I’m here to tell you that if you got an alright computer, you could probably record with the laptop microphone.
I did that for a few of my songs.
Don’t doubt yourself in the quality, right now it’s not so much about quality as it is about perfecting your craft.
So when should I hire a producer?

So, let’s do the math.
According to willharken.com, music producers cost anywhere between 50 dollars all the way up to 20,000 dollars a song.
But it more so depends on the artists that they’ve worked with. If someone worked with a big named artist, they will get paid more than the guy who has produced local bands.

Now on a 10 song album, 50 dollars a song is around 500 dollars. If you personally think that, that’s starting off small, then by all means go for it.
But my main point is that you should only get a producer when you can afford it and still pay all of your bills on time.
Don’t sacrifice your electricity bill just because you wanted to make a great album.
The great album will come, just keep working hard at your music.
Keep making hits, and keep grinding away.
Also, if you’re really going to fork over a lot of money for a producer, you might want to use some money for a mixing and mastering engineer. Why would you want a great album poorly mixed and mastered? It just doesn’t make sense.
A rule of thumb that I like to keep to myself is that I should only use a music producer when I can either afford it, or if I’m big enough to need a music producer.
I don’t want to fully produce an album unless many people are going to hear it.
