Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all the things that you need to do in order to promote your music.
Before we get into it, let’s have our moment of silence.
At this time, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray to God to help us to work hard at our dreams. Ask God to forgive our enemies from all of the things that they do. Take a minimum of 5 minutes and pray for these things.
Now back to the show
Step 1: Know what you can and can’t do.
There are actually a lot of ways that you can promote your music on the internet for little to no cost.
The thing is that you have to trade up time for exposure.
If you’re like me, You probably don’t have millions of dollars to spend on advertising for your career that might not go well.
That’s okay, there are other people out there who are just like you.
And I want you to know a few things.
- You can do it. Even if you have 0 followers and fans or don’t have any friends, it’s possible to start a career in music as an artist. You just need to work harder than everyone else.
- There are some basics that we’ll go over in promoting your music but just know that everything takes time.
- Have patience with yourself. When you first started to play the guitar, you weren’t good at the beginning and it took years before you could actually go to an open mic right?
So with those basics in mind let’s go over how you’re actually supposed to promote your music.
The internet (Hear me out)
As Independent musicians, we have the opportunity to use the internet in the manner that we want to use it.
For this purpose we will use the internet to market and promote our music.
Now I know that there are a lot of people out there who say that if you get on all of the social media’s and start promoting left and right, then you’ll start getting fans.
And it could be true.
But what they don’t tell you is that each social media:Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Blog, or YouTube, requires time to create.
I remember I was watching on YouTube of how each video is actually made and it could take a few days worth of actual work before you release a video.
And on top of that, you’re supposed to make a plan for content and create content for Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and your blog?
Like all of those things just take an insane amount of time.
If you were bigger and already making a decent income off of your music, then I guess it would be okay to do that.
But in the early stages of marketing your music, you can’t afford to call off days from work or school just because you wanted to make a YouTube video.
Therefore, I recommend that you start off by using 1 or 2 social media’s at a time.
This way, you can actually create content that is good and also start promoting your music.
Now I know what you’re thinking, “German, that’s a plan for creating content, I want to know how to actually gain fans from the content that I put out.”
I’ll explain it in a little bit, but you need to know this before we get into the meat and bones of the blog post.
The meat and bones of the blog post
So I have preached that content marketing is the way to go.
But what does that mean?
Content marketing means that you gain a following by literally just putting up content.
Don’t overthink it, it’s as simple as baking chocolate chip cookies.
You gain a following by simply putting up content on the social media of your choice.
This is what I preach in a lot of my blog posts about marketing and honestly it’s the best way to think about Internet marketing.
There are a lot of people out there who say that you should be commenting on the internet and building relationships with people so that people will help you to build a following by word of mouth.
And in a sense they’re telling the truth.
However, the number one way that you’re going to gain a following isn’t by small exposure of word of mouth, but by using the algorithm of Google and YouTube to promote your website or YouTube channel at the top of the pages.
It’s not overnight success, let’s be clear about that, this is a long process that you’re going to have to go through in order to build a following.
And by long process, I’m talking about a minimum of 1 year’s worth of hard work in posting up blog posts or Instagram posts in order to start your following.
And you know what? If it takes a whole three years to make that dream a reality, then you know that it was something good that you started to chase after.
Only bad things come quick, that’s a bible teaching.
Good things come to those who wait, you have to trust in God about that.
So literally the only thing that you have to do is to put up good content that people will enjoy and that’s it!
Don’t think that you have to promote your blog posts or anything because you don’t really need to do that.
There are studies out there that support that promoting your blog posts will actually increase readership. However, the people promoting are often promoting their blog posts for hours at a time, almost like a part-time or full-time job.
There are advantages to promoting your blog, however, almost none of us have the time to invest into promoting a blog when we have college, work, gym, friends, music, and of course binge watching your T.V. shows.
HAHA! I’m kidding with the T.V. shows but it’s what happens in our lives right?
The method that I am talking about, making as much content as possible, requires years of posting before your blog or YouTube channel takes off.
And even though it’s a longer time span that you’re going to have to wait, I think it’s actually well worth it.
All the time that you’re blogging, you’re actually building up skills that you could perfectly use in a resume.
And also, you’re not sacrificing a whole lot of time into something that might not work.
It’s a win-win situation.
