Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all how to use Google Trends for your music blog.

Before we get into it, let’s have our moment of silence.

At this time, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray to God to help us to better understand him. Ask God to help us to continue to seek him. Take a minimum of 5 minutes and pray for these things.

Now back to the show

How to use Google Trends for your Christian blog?

Google trends truly is a big resource. It is a vital tool that you can use to research new topics and expand your knowledge on current topics.

It will also give you an advantage over the rest of the market by targeting low competition keywords that will eventually blow up.

Now of course everyone else is doing the same thing.

Therefore, you have to research carefully to pick the topic that will actually yield high ending results.

And I’m not going to say that I research every blog post that I put up, but I do a healthy amount of researching.

Especially when I’m in a rut, I will use Google and Google trends to research topics that could either be hot or under the radar. And I will tell you why I do both.

Let’s talk about this.

The hot topics

I research on google trends for hot topics in my niche so that I can ride the wave of success.

Of course some of the topics that you will write about will only be hot for a month or so, and it could be well worth it to write about those topics, but for me, I will almost always write about a topic that probably has been hot for a while.

Overall it’s a balance to see what you want to write about.

Riding the wave can be helpful as there are a lot of people talking about that topic at that moment. If a lot of people are searching up that topic, you have more opportunities to be found.

However, it comes with a price.

Hot Topics usually are talked about a lot. Therefore, every blogger in your niche is going to come up with ways to talk about that topic in their own unique and professional voice.

And a lot of those bloggers or content creators will have more experience than you, more authority in their website, more followers preferring them over you, etc. etc.

So it can be a little difficult to break through the noise.

But don’t let that scare you. If you word your blog post in a way that isn’t searched for usually, then you could have a shot at ranking even number 1 of the results.

Low competition keywords

I have recently become a fan of low competition keywords.

The reason is because I think I’ve found a small amount of success by ranking for keywords that are more difficult, specific, or niche-oriented.

I took a course on blogging and it said for the beginning to focus on specific, niche-oriented topics because you will have a higher chance of ranking number 1 for those results.

And I looked at it for a second and I thought to myself, “Wow that makes so much sense.”

Because when you first start a blog, you don’t have any authority in the internet or Google to rank for those highly competitive topics.

Therefore, you must build yourself up from somewhere.

Start focusing on very specific, highly niche topics. I know, you might want to rank for those big topics like “Christianity” or “Music”, but patience young grasshopper, you’ll get there eventually. Start from the bottom and build yourself up to the top.

I’ve actually been slowly building up my audience with my low-competition blog posts. I’ve been seeing a steady rise in results.

So, trust the process.

Overall

Overall, I would actually recommend doing a healthy mix of both kind of keywords.

The reason is because the Niche specific keywords will rank for the short-term. While the big keywords rank for the Long term.

Once your blog has a sustainable crowd of people, you will actually have a shot at ranking for the big keywords.

Therefore, a healthy mix of both types of keywords would be ideal.

But don’t forget, if you feel like you have something valuable to add or you are just dying to write about something and it’s not hot or not, then just write about what you were going to write about. Someone will find value.

Especially in the early stages of writing in a blog, you must practice the craft of writing. So don’t think that you can’t fail, you perfectly can and it’s actually a part of the process, so just write.
