Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all how to make Holy music that sounds appealing.
Before we get into it, let’s have our moment of silence.
At this time, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray to God to help us to become the person that he wants us to become. Take a minimum of 5 minutes and pray for this.
Now back to the show
How to make Holy Music that sounds appealing
So there are a lot of aspects that come into play when you are writing songs.
The first step that we need to identify in making music is to know if our songs actually worship God or not.
There are a lot of songs out there that try and worship the Lord, and even though they seem very good and talk about good moral subjects, they still don’t actually worship the Lord.
There are a lot of good subjects to talk about in a song and there are a lot of good ideas that people can have, but that doesn’t mean that you should write about it.
The goal of us as Christians is to worship and write songs that adore and praise the Lord. Songs that uplift his name is what we aim for.
Therefore, we need to be serious in ourselves and ask ourselves, “What kind of musician do I really want to be?”
Do I want to go out and have fun at a bar? And some people think that’s okay.
Or do I want to worship the Lord with my song and show him that I am absolutely, one hundred percent his?
And I know what you’re thinking, “German, it’s good and actually Godly to talk about the topics that God wants us to talk about. Why wouldn’t it be Godly to use songs to communicate those ideas with?”
Well the bible clearly instructs us to use song to worship and praise the Lord.
The bible instructs us to love God with all of our hearts.
The bible also mentions that God made everything for his pleasure. Therefore, he made us so that we could write songs for him.
But I get it, you already know all of these concepts and you want to get to the technical side of writing songs. That’s perfect! Let me give you some technical aspects of writing songs.
The lyrics

I would highly encourage and recommend that you read and write poetry to start writing lyrics.
The reason is that a lot of those elements relate to lyric writing.
There is a practice and it is called sense-bound writing. I would highly recommend that you look it up and practice it. The goal is to use your senses to describe a certain topic.
And you use it to bring and image to your audiences head.
This helps the song and lyrics to breath and live.
The music

I can’t really explain everything that there is to know about melodies and music theory, because I’ve already written about it in the past.
But here are some key points that you should know about writing a great song.
- Repetition is key
- Simplicity is key
- Slow and emotional over speed and aggression
- Work with what you got
- And always pray to God to give you better ideas
So what happens is that you are going to do a lot of repetition: repeating chords, melodies, lyrics, etc. etc.
And it’s nothing wrong, it’s how hit songs are made!
Simplicity is key because the simple things are the things that work the best in music.
I know that we all have those “get pumped up and hit the floor hard” songs that are fast and aggressive, but really, it’s the slow songs that captivate and move the crowd to sing with you.
It really is.
Work with what you got.
I remember back when I first started to write songs, I tried to use alien notes all the time to make something unique and different.
However, I didn’t really know how to use it. I only knew how to use the notes within the scale.
And then I found out that, what I knew was what pop music is based off of.
So, I’m over here and I write songs now for the Lord and I just use what I know.
But I do know now how to use notes outside of the scale, it’s called modal interchange, and I can use it, I just prefer not to.
Combine the two
Combine the two and boom! You have a musical masterpiece.
