As a Christian, I don’t keep Christmas traditions

What traditions have you not kept that your parents had?

Hey guys! Before we get started, let’s have our moment of silence.

At this time, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray to God to help us to follow him no matter what. Take a minimum of 5 minutes and pray for this.

Christmas Traditions

You know it’s funny, when I was a kid, I was all about traditions.

I wanted to keep up with the old traditions that we were doing as a family, mainly because it gave me a feeling of being home and warm.

However, as I got older, I started to turn away from those traditions.

Why?

Well one of the main reasons is that my mom didn’t like to do those traditions, it was mainly my dad who liked to do them.

My mom wasn’t a big tradition person to be honest with you.

She was more interested in God.

And she said, “I don’t like to do those things (specifically referring to Christmas traditions) because there is no point in doing those things.”

And so I kept that in my heart.

And you honestly have to know what I feel right now.

I don’t like to keep with some of the Christmas traditions because some people forget what Christmas is really about.

It’s not about family or friends, or exchanging gifts, it’s not about a feeling, but rather it’s about a person, the person of Jesus Christ.

Traditions are okay I guess but they shouldn’t rule over you.

Personally me, I’m not going to set up a Christmas tree at my house with my kids because it represents something that’s not from God.

To be honest with you, even the exchange of gifts is a little concerning. Not saying I don’t like it, because I do. But what I’m saying is traditions aren’t the reason why we celebrate Christmas or Easter or anything like that.

Christmas is about Jesus and Easter is about Jesus. And I want to keep it that way.
