Hey everyone! Today, I’m going to share with you all some of my tips for picking out a computer for your music career. Keep in mind that these are my own tips, I’m not saying they’re right or wrong, it’s just personally what I do.
Before we get into it, let’s have our moment of silence.
At this time, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray to God to help us to follow him no matter what. Take a minimum of 5 minutes and pray for this.
The specifications for a computer that you should use for a music career.
My recommendations

I actually know a little bit about computers from all the experiences that I’ve had with growing up with them and also working experience that I have with them.
I’m a bit of an ace when it comes to certain programs and yeah I like computers a lot. I think that they are a valuable tool for any musician.
However, something that I don’t like about musicians is that they have TOO MANY computers. Haha! They have a laptop for on the go blogging, they have another laptop for on the move producing, another desktop for at home producing, cellular devices, etc. etc.
And I have heard the argument from all sorts of people saying that you need a new computer for the purposes of what you need.
Like I have heard that if you want to edit videos, then you need a separate computer for that because the software is very hard on your interface and RAM and the amount of storage that you need to save video files is immense.
I have also heard that if you want to produce music on your laptop or desktop then you need a separate computer for that as well because, I will admit, music files are very large when they are in the production process.
They really are large. I one time had a 20 track song and that took around 4 gigabytes. And if you start making 100s of songs, that starts to add up. Not only that, but then you have all software that goes along with the music production gear.
I mean there are softwares and plugins for everything under the sun.
And then you have to worry about the oh so large amount of blog posts that you’re going to be writing all the time.
I’ll give them the fact that word processing documents don’t take all that much memory or storage, but still I personally have used a whole bunch of gigabytes with google docs and right now they’re saying that I need to upgrade to more memory.
And this is that most of my files are word documents.
So like, my recommendation is really just find what you’ll be focusing on.
We as musicians benefit from pictures and videos. But we need something that can handle music production softwares and hardwares. We need something reliable and trustworthy.
Now with all that being said, I’m not expecting you to fork over 3,000 dollars on equipment.
And it’s not what I do.
If it were me. I would get a laptop worth around 4 or 500 dollars that can do word processing documents because it really is easier to write blog posts with a laptop than on your phone.
And with your phone, you can actually do a whole lot of things.
You can FL studio to produce music on, and you can film and edit videos.
I personally have a phone that I bought for 180 dollars and I have gotten paid from the videos that I’ve made with my phone.
So like, work with what you have.
Don’t expect to make a recording contract with this equipment, even though I’m sure someone out there has done it before, but do expect to go far.
That’s the budget way of doing it
The expensive way

HAHA, okay, I see that I’m talking to a baller now, let’s talk about the expensive way.
If you really want to invest in some money for your career, just keep in mind that the only reason why I would recommend this type of money is to someone who is already making money in some capacity with their music career and can afford to treat themselves to something nice.
I would recommend a late version Intel I7 or I9 (or something equivalent) processor. I would recommend 16 gb Ram or 32, you’re going to need the memory.
And either 1 or 2 terabytes of storage.
I personally like the touchscreen feature, I feel like it makes things go by really fast.
And something with a lot of USB ports. Maybe you want to invest in some mixing speakers.
A diaphragm condenser microphone and interface for your music production software.
Of course along with a music production software.
All of that would probably run you around 4 or 5 thousand dollars.
I wouldn’t do it unless you were either already signed to a label or you are rolling in the dough with your music.
Or if you really wanted to do it, you could build your way up and start buying things one at a time.
Like buy the laptop first, and then the speakers, and then the software and hardware.
The laptop itself could run you around 2 G’s but I think you could get a really good alternative for around 1 thousand dollars.
I know I got my laptop which had some of these specifications for 1 thousand dollars.
I thank God for my laptop that he gave me. He gave me a good laptop.
All of this goes with a grain of salt.

In reality, You don’t need all of that in a computer to become a great musician. It’s OPTIMAL TO HAVE IT, but it’s not necessary.
The reason why I said all of that was because if you wanted to do it all in one computer. If you wanted to edit videos and create music on your laptop while also doing word processing documents, then the above computer would almost be necessary.
In reality here are some specifications that you could use that would give you some leeway in the price.
You could have an Intel I5 processor (or equivalent) but when you do this, try and get the most updated processor because sometimes old processors have bugs that don’t get fixed no matter how much we update.
You could have between 500 Gb and 1 terabyte worth of storage. And between 8 gb to 16 gb worth of ram. That would be good for the music production side and word processing side. And the thing is that you can do all of the word processing on google docs so then you don’t have to download anything or use any storage. I mean the point is to be resourceful.
And then you could use your phone to edit and record videos so that way you use less storage on your laptop and use all of your resources accordingly.
