Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all which one should you do, gigging or get a following on the internet?
Before we get started, let’s have our moment of silence.
At this time, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray to God to help us ot follow him throughout all of our lives. Ask God to guide us more towards him each and every day. Take a minimum of 5 minutes and pray for this.
Now back to the show
Gigging or the internet
So nowadays, there are kind of different views as to what musicians should do in order to make a following.
Some musicians say that gigging is the best way to make a following.
And actually some big time musicians say that, that’s still the best way to make a following.
I once heard Dave Grohl, who is not a Christian musician but rather lead singer of the Foo Fighters, said that the biggest thing that a musician could do in order to get more fans is literally to just perform live.
The reason why is because if you can move people at a concert and get them to think and feel like you, it’s almost a guaranteed way of making a fan.
And I respect that completely.
There are other musicians out there who say the same thing too and I completely understand that.
However, technology has really helped musicians out more than just by being able to sell music everywhere.
Technology has enabled us as musicians to communicate effectively with our audiences.
I feel like the Christian musician would benefit greatly from the technological advances.
And there are a lot of musicians out there who support the use of technology in order to create your fanbase.
I personally know for a fact that I solely build my fanbase by internet means.
The main reason is because it’s a little difficult for me to get around places so I have to do with what I have.
However, I’ve decided to really invest work into making my fanbase a reality.
So the choice is gigging or the internet, which one should you do?
Let’s talk about it
My choice is technology
There is a reason why I choose technology as my main source of fan building.
The first reason is because when you start to find gigs of your own, the venue where you would be performing wants to see that you can actually bring people to the venue.
What happens is not only does the venue make money off of your ticket sales, but also off of the drinks, food, merchandise, and any other thing that is bought at the venue.
They make money off of that.
And sure enough, if you want to appear on the stage, they want to see that you can bring crowds to sell to
That wasn’t always like that.
Back in the day, you would start out performing at small gigs like open mics and then you would move on to bigger venues.
But now, venues want that social proof.
So, you need to build up your following on the internet first before moving on to the big dogs.
It takes work, but it’s worth it.
Gigging
This blog post wouldn’t be complete without talking about gigging.
It has to be done at some point. The whole reason why you would build up your following in the first place is to play live eventually.
I mean like being a musician and gigging go hand in hand to be honest with you. Whether you’re a solo musician or in a band, gigging is absolutely essential to the musicians daily vitamins.
It does still reign as a good way to make an impact in the amount of fans that you have.
Plus it’s where you will make the most money.
Anyways, that’s my take on it.
