Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all some wisdom that I have learned from a few people that are older than me.
Before we get started, let’s have our moment of silence.
At this time, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray to God to make us more responsible. Ask God to strengthen our hands to become the responsible people that he wants us to become. Take a minimum of 5 minutes and pray for this.
Now back to the show
Some wisdom
So what happens is that recently, I was actually looking to get a dog. I thought to myself that maybe in the near future I’ll be able to get my own house and I’ll be able to get my own dog.
And so I thought that there were steps that you needed to take to start owning a dog.
I had heard from different people that if you own a goldfish or any type of fish for a while and took good care of it, then you are ready for a dog.
So I asked my parents what they thought about it.
And my mom was actually a little bit upset with me.
And so then my mother looked at me and said, “Look German, I don’t understand you in a way. Because I don’t know if it’s the time that I grew up or what, but when I was a kid, you took care of your responsibilities.”
And then she said, “There is no but what if’s, you took care of your responsibilities and that was that.”
“So if a dog does it’s business inside the house, then it’s your responsibility to clean it up. If you have a dog, then you feed it, play with it, take care of it, show it love and affection, etc. etc. there is no but what if’s.”
And she said, “We never got a dog because I don’t like dogs, but in reality the question that you’re asking is a little too naive, it’s a little uneducated because if you have a dog and it’s your responsibility, you just do it, no if, and’s, or but’s.”
So that really put into perspective the kind of responsibility that I needed to have.
Now what does that have to do with music?
Music is like what my mom just said, it becomes your responsibility.
Now that you’re a musician, it’s your responsibility to write music and get better at music and to perfect your craft so that you may become the best musician possible.
It’s not a matter of, “If I’m going to do it.” it’s a matter of let’s do it.
So like, I see a lot of blog posts out there and in a way I was the same as my mother, I didn’t understand why people wrote these blog posts.
Because the number one way that you get better at making music is by creating more music.
The number one way that you get better at guitar is by playing more guitar. It’s really plain and simple.
And I see all these blog posts that say, “How do I get better at guitar with minimalist effort?” or how about, “10 ways to get better at guitar fast!”
I didn’t understand it because the way you get better at guitar is a slow and painful process that takes patience, diligence and time.
But it’s the same as with any other thing in life, you really need to just be responsible and just do it.
And so the wisdom that I have for you musicians out there that want to succeed in music is just be responsible. Practice your music, go out there and make beats, go out there and produce music. And just do it. Don’t put any obstacles in your way because in reality, it will be you who stops you from making your dreams come true.
