Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all some things that you need to understand about money as a musician.
Before we get started, let’s have our moment of silence.
At this time, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray to God to help us to become better musicians. Take a minimum of 5 minutes and pray for this.
Now back to the show
What you have to understand about money as a musician.
So like, I feel like there is a big misconception about money and music.
The first instance that we should consider is that it is completely possible and feasible to make money as a musician, we all already know that because we have seen other people do it before.
The second thing that we should know is that it’s just like any other job in the world.
You go through a period of where you are nearly broke and you work your way to have the life that you really want. Isn’t that true for a lot of jobs?
Let’s look at it like this.
In order to become a doctor, you have to spend around 10 years in school in order to become a doctor is that not right?
And during those 10 years, you are working on a barista job, you are studying late nights to get the test results that you want, etc. etc.
And even if you do get paid for your residency, it’s still not that much.
I have heard that doctors actually get paid around 32,000 dollars a year for their residency, which is just above minimum wage in the state of Virginia.
It’s only AFTER that you actually get the money that you want. Once you become a full fledged- professional doctor, then you will get the money that you deserve and want.
Let’s look at another profession.
Let’s say teacher. You spend 4 years at college trying to get the degree so that once you graduate you can become a teacher.
But while you do those 4 years, you’re not getting paid and as a matter of fact, you are PAYING to get your degrees, is that not right?
You are paying to get your degrees and if you fail, then you’re just out of luck.
And all that time, there are so many jokes about being a broke college student that I could write books and sell them for 50 dollars each about each joke.
Let’s look at a trade.
In a trade, you actually work minimum wage a lot of times to start out. You work minimum wage and you work at a company and they might pay you but you don’t get the big bucks until you can prove that you can go out and do it on your own.
And usually the trade business is that you work for a year or two as an apprentice and then you take a test and then become certified as a technician.
Now let’s talk about music.
In music it’s the same thing. You have to work really hard to produce money, it really is the same thing.
In music, you have to work a job, and work on your music career at the same time. You have to work on your blog and your music, you have to gig, and you have to just be involved in music for a few years and if you put in the work and really strive to do it, then of course you can’t fail.
But keep in mind something, it is all under the will of God.
The Lord might want you to be a musician, the Lord might not.
If you find that all of your music petitions are working out, then you’ll know for certain that the Lord wants you to be a musician, if you find that all of your music petitions are NOT working out and that you pray and pray to God to give you music but he leads you elsewhere, then maybe you need to go and find something else.
When you get older, you will see which way God is leading you and which way he doesn’t.
I personally didn’t know which way God was leading me until I actually grew up because I didn’t understand when to know if it was God or not. But now I see which one is God and which one is not.
So, pray to God to help you to discern the way that you’re supposed to go in your music career and you can never go wrong.
