Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all how to start a music career.

Before we get started, let’s have our moment of silence.

At this time, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray to God to help us to follow him throughout all of our lives. Ask God to guide us more towards him each and every day. Take a minimum of 5 minutes and pray for this.

Now back to the show

How to start a music career when all you have is great music

There are a few ways that you can start a music career.

If you guys know me already. When I was 19 years old, I had made a one song demo.

A demo is a recorded piece of music that’s not finished.

AKA it hasn’t been produced, mixed, or mastered.

So I had this one song demo and I sent it out to different people in the music industry: A&R (people responsible for finding new talent in the music industry), managers, execs, producers, etc. etc.

And I got back in touch with one company, they were a promotion company.

And they said that they were going to run some tests on my music to see if people really liked it. And they said that they were going to take 1 month maybe 2 to get back in touch with me.

So I waited 2 ½ months for them to get back in touch with me, and they gave me 5 stars out of 5 stars on my one song demo.

And they recommended that I would start to put it on the radio.

And I didn’t do it.

The reason why I didn’t do it was because after they sent me this email, they had also asked me to give them my socials, and they asked me how many followers I had, and how many albums I’ve sold, and what venues I’ve performed at.

I think that they thought that I was some big artist already, which I wasn’t.

And I told them that I didn’t have all these things.

They had also asked if I had any money to invest on this promotion and I didn’t have any money either.

So I didn’t know this, but when you are trying to get into the music industry, you need to be someone already before record labels try and sign you.

And they ask for your socials and following and album sales because when they decide to sign you or help you, they are still taking a risk with their own money and they need to see that you can deliver and that people actually like you.

That’s the reason for all of those social questions.

And I didn’t have any of the things that they wanted.

So I had to decline, and they told me to contact them in the future if anything ever changes but I just couldn’t.

And honestly, I was heartbroken. I was torn, because I had spent the last 8 years studying music and achieving music dreams and now all of a sudden I couldn’t take this big opportunity because I still wasn’t ready for the big leagues.

So then, I left it. Literally I didn’t have anything that the record labels and radio stations wanted except this great song that I had recorded.

And I left it but in reality, I had given up. I kept saying to myself that no opportunity would ever show up like this again.

And so I started praying about it.

I actually started to pray to God about it.

Because I kept saying to myself, this isn’t the end of it. This can’t be the end of it.

So I started praying about it.

And sure enough the Lord responded in a few ways.

The first way is that he got me certified in social media management.

Which actually led me to getting this blog that I have today.

The next thing is that he helped me to grow my following.

Now, I’m getting a pretty decent amount of views.

And now I’m starting to get the music career that I had always worked hard for.

I will say, that I did give up for a little bit, I was torn, I mean I had just received a really big email that could’ve possibly sent me to the big 3 but I just couldn’t take it because of “paperwork”.

However, I will admit something and I think that this is the main reason why the Lord didn’t want me to take this offer back then.

The reason why the Lord didn’t want me to take this offer was because, the music wasn’t Christian.

It wasn’t Christian. It wasn’t Godly.

And yes I will admit that the song itself didn’t say anything vulgar or obscene, but it wasn’t worshiping the Lord and I know for a fact that the Lord wanted me to be a Godly musician.

So now, my music is Godly, and sure enough the Lord is blessing my hands in the music field, he is providing the things that I need to succeed in this music industry, and now I know that the Lord is the one who really wants me to do this.

So if you want my advice on how to start a music career when all you have is great music, I would just say to trust in God.

Ask God to bless your hands in music, Ask God to give you that record deal, Ask God to guide your hands for the craft of art with sound.

And he will with all his heart, bless you.
