Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all some words of wisdom to all beginning Christian musicians.
Before we get started, let’s have our moment of silence.
At this time, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray to God to bless our hands in music. Ask God to be the center of everything that we do for without him we cannot do anything. Take a minimum of 5 minutes and pray for this.
Now back to the show
So listen to these words because they will guide you through dark times.
I remember back when I first started music, it wasn’t a serious thing.
It wasn’t a thing that I thought, “oh man I’m going to get rich and famous off of this one day.”
No actually, I was just having a lot of fun with music and it was just too awesome.
It wasn’t until I got really good and I noticed that everyone in the guitar field was saying that I was the best guitarist that I really started to think of music as a profession.
I’m not going to lie, I had already said to myself that the Lord had blessed me in music.
The Lord had strengthened my hands in music and it was the Lord, it wasn’t me. And so I was actually straight up No-lifing music. I would literally play guitar and piano and sing and rap like they were video games. I just wouldn’t put it down.
I remember on Saturday’s I would wake up early in the morning at ungodly hours and play from sun up till sun down guitar, piano, singing, and rap. And sure enough it was the Lord who blessed my hands in music.
And finally I had gotten all this music wisdom and I said, I need to do something with music.
And sure enough, my parents said the same thing.
They kept on encouraging me to go out there and work really hard in music because music was just something that I needed to do.
And then everybody else kept saying the same thing.
I had bosses tell me the same thing, I had friends tell me the same thing, I had co-workers, Lawyers all tell me the same thing.
And I remember one of my friends said to me, “German, you’ll know something is from God if you find a holy way to use it and 3 people tell you that you need to do it.”
And I was like, “Well I found out that I do know how to use it in a holy manner, and that’s through worshiping and praising the Lord, and more than 3 people have confirmed it.”
And honestly, it was a tough journey, no one ever said that the music life was easy. I remember there were nights where I thought about horrible things, I thought about death and all the wrong things.
I remember a lot of people were jealous at the things that I did.
When I won the most outstanding music student award from the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. none of the kids from my school went to celebrate it.
In part I had a feeling that I knew why, these kids knew that I had prayed to God to make me a great guitarist. I remember I saw this girl who was a great musician, she could sing, and play guitar, she was a scholar, she was just a really awesome person.
However, when my teacher announced that I had won the most outstanding music student award and it was me, she went up to her and said, “Why him? He doesn’t deserve to be named that.”
And I remember my teacher’s response to her she just said, “ Can you play piano like German? Can you play guitar like German? Are you a leader in any of your musical groups? Can you rap like German? Can you sing like German?” and she just starts listing off things that no one could do except me.
And I finally said to myself, “The Lord has done great things.”
And it was the Lord who did those great things.
And I remember when I went up on the stage to receive my award, It was at the Kennedy Center and it was a PACKED house.
And I remember when they announced the winners, I was wearing a suit that was all black and a red tie.
And they listed off all of my accomplishments in music.
And everyone just starts saying, “He didn’t do that, That’s impossible, NO way! There’s no way that he could’ve done that!”
And the entire time I just said, “It was God who did these things.”
So, trust me that the journey is tough, the journey is hard, But the Lord is stronger than anything that there is in this world.
I had prayed to God to make me a great musician, and he made me a great musician.
If you pray to God for the same, he will make you the same.
Pray to God for all of the things in your life, and he will always answer.
That’s my advice, to pray, pray your heart away, and God will answer
