You know, I actually had the same question myself a few days ago and to be honest with you, I’m still not sure what it means.
But I’m going to share with you all my perspective of it all.
Before we get started, let’s have our moment of silence.
At this time, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray to God to help us to live by his woord. Take a minimum of 5 minutes and pray for this.
Now back to the show
Living by the sword
In this instance, I’m most definitely sure that Jesus was talking about violence.
He was trying to say, “He who lives by violence, shall die by violence.”
And since Jesus spoke it, it is true.
But what does that mean?
Does that mean that we cannot join the army or the police force? Does that mean that we cannot use force for the helping of others?
Well let’s take a look at these subjects shall we?
What I personally think
So this is my personal belief.
If the United States were to ever draft me to serve in the military, I would faithfully and wholeheartedly go fight in the military.
Why? Because there is something else in the bible that talks about these kinds of things.
And it says to listen to your kings and rulers.
For they have been put there by the hand of God and his hand alone.
And me, personally me, if it was my destiny, or my calling to die at war, then so be it because if the draft was called that I had to go and fight in a war, then it would have been God who called me to go to that war.
I didn’t force myself to go join the war, but God lead me there.
And I have no doubt that God has sufficient resources and manpower to get the army going without my help.
I have seen cases where parents told the kids to join the military, it was kind of frightening.
But those parents told the kids to go and join the military and I’ve seen that a lot.
So it goes to show that God doesn’t need us to have security for a nation. His hand alone is sufficient for that.
Now let’s talk about voluntary military service.
I believe that violence is almost never the answer.
I believe that people can negotiate things.
Because ultimately, you are putting other people’s lives at stake if you decide to go to war.
War is a horrible thing.
Humanity is lost in war.
And there is no rule of war that can prevent the atrocities that will happen during a war.
Also
Also the bible speaks against violence as a means of getting things resolved.
It speaks against the person who speaks violence.
And it states that the violent man will die violently.
So, I personally think that it would be best if we were to just stay away from all sorts of violence. For it can be horrible.
But there is one more however.
The Lord has in place all of the things that there are today for a reason.
The military is no different.
And if God has the military, it’s for a good reason.
And usually for the edification of his name.
And you can defend the nation faithfully to God, it’s just difficult.
Anyways, if you plan on joining the military, pray about it. And just know it takes a lot of strength both physically, spiritually, and mentally to be in there.
