Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all some advice on how to produce music.

Before we get into it, let’s have our moment of silence.

At this time, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray to God to help us to always adhere to him. Ask God to help us to put love in us towards him. Take a minimum of 5 minutes and pray for this.

Now back to the show

Advice on how to produce.

So like with a lot of things in music, producing music takes a long time to develop.

The skills that you need in order to produce music take a long time to develop.

And it makes sense.

And for most of us, It would be better if we were to work with a producer on producing songs to release to our fan base because that producer is really going to make that song shine.

There is a saying in the music industry that says, “If your producer isn’t doing most of the leg work, there is something that’s wrong.”

Haha, it’s not a hard and fast rule and it’s more so of a joke than it is reality, but you get the idea.

The songwriter writes the songs, and the producer brings the composition to life.

So there are really a few things that you should know if you want to become a producer.

Let’s talk about it.

Know music theory

So I have seen a lot of musicians nowadays come out and just rip off samples from different sources and then mix a bunch of those samples together and call it their own.

But you should know that, that’s just copyright infringement.

I know it’s hard to believe but it is what it is.

The way that you’re supposed to use those samples is you take the sample, put it in a sampler, and then chop up the sample to your liking.

There are some samples I believe that you can use without doing anything to it, I think it’s those samples that are like less than 2 seconds long or something like that. I forgot, but you have to look into it.

I know certain effects you can use without changing anything about it, but it has to be brought about with some originality, you can’t just rip off samples and call it your own.

This is where music theory comes in.

You’re going to need to know music theory in order to actually create songs.

But along with that music theory, you need to know how to play instruments and play them well.

Particularly piano because you use a lot of piano in music production.

Know how to play a few instruments

It’s good to have at least a foundation of Guitar and Piano and maybe bass too.

Because if you were to create bass lines that actually come off as intricate and developed, it will help out your music.

And know how to sing because using your voice to create a song is very powerful.

Remake a whole bunch of songs

You need to be constantly remaking songs to build up your skills.

Remake your favorite songs because ultimately your favorite songs are the songs that sell.

This is the biggest practice that you could do as a producer.

Listen to the songs that you like and just remake them.

That’s literally the practice that you need to do in order to become a great producer.
