Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to show you guys some things that you can do to strengthen your songwriting abilities.

Before we get into it, let’s have our moment of silence.

At this time, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray to God to guide us more towards him each day. Take a minimum of 5 minutes and pray for this.

Now back to the show

How to develop your songwriting abilities

So what happens is that it actually takes a lot of practice to actually get good at guitar. It takes a lot of practice to get good at singing.

And it also takes a lot of practice to get good at songwriting.

I remember I saw in an interview with Ed Sheeran that there is a 10,000 hour rule.

Where you need to invest at least 10,000 hours into a topic for you to actually get good at something.

So Ed Sheeran said that if you invest 10,000 hours into songwriting, then you would have become a professional songwriter.

And he said that, that’s a very accurate depiction of the hard work that you have to invest into songwriting.

And actually I agree with that as well.

There are a lot of people that write songs that say, that the songwriting abilities is like a muscle, the more you train it, the more it gets stronger.

And honestly, it’s true for everything else in life.

I mean doctors spend 10 years in school and in post graduate work trying to become a doctor because it takes that many years to become good at a subject.

Engineers spend 7

Musicians spend all their lives becoming better at their craft and they still don’t get anywhere near close to perfection.

So, spend a good amount of time just practicing songwriting, and you will get better at it.

Make sure that you get a good grasp of all the Songwriting fundamentals.

Whether that’s song form, music theory, lyric writing, etc. etc.

Make sure you know how each part is supposed to sound.

Make sure you know how each part is supposed to be written because different parts of a song require different things.

They take different shapes and often times require a different theory of songwriting to it.

Like one way to write a song is to keep the verses fast and the chorus slow.

Another way to write a song is to start from the bottom and end up high.

Anyways, that’s are just some of the different ways that you’re supposed to write a song.

Just keep practicing songwriting and you will get far.
