Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all some of the tips that I did when I was getting really good at guitar and how it made me a better guitar player.
Before we get into it, let’s have our moment of silence.
At this time, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray to God to guide us more towards him each and every day. Take a minimum of 5 minutes and pray for this.
Now back to the show
Top 3 best guitar player tips for getting insanely good at guitar.
Guitar is a craft.
Guitar is an art.
Everything about the guitar is unique and each aspect needs careful consideration before diving deep into what you’re going into.
Blues guitar is something different than Jazz, Classical is a whole other world to get into.
So let’s get into my top advice for getting insanely awesome at guitar?
Practice the right way
Practice in general is what separates the good players against the great players.
If you practice more, the better you’re going to get at guitar.
I remember I one time saw an interview with slash about how he got to be such a good guitarist.
Just to remind you guys, Slash is a secular guitarist from the 80s and 90s and he was named 7 times guitar player of the year by Guitar World Magazine.
A feat which no other guitar player has ever done.
And in this interview that he had, he claims that he would literally skip school and practice guitar for 14 hours a day every day.
He was a troublemaker for sure.
But that kind of practice is something that we should be modeling as guitarists.
I’m not saying to go out and skip school for the sake of guitar.
Because that will back fire on you.
But I am saying to invest time into guitar.
I remember when I was practicing guitar and getting really good at it, I would practice for 8 hours a day.
I remember school got out at 2 o’clock and I wouldn’t stop until I slept.
I would even skip dinner sometimes just to play guitar and sleep.
I had to bring down the amount of guitar playing because music has other responsibilities too.
If you want to get into college as a musician, you need some level of Piano proficiency, which obviously I started playing the piano when I found that out.
And I was also in a lot of other musical programs, so my time was completely absorbed.
I remember Saturdays were completely Guitar days, Where I would just play guitar for the entire day.
I would pick up the guitar and not stop for another 12 hours.
From sun up to sun down.
If you dedicate that amount of time into guitar every day, There’s no one whose going to stop you.
But how do you play fast?
You start slow
You know that one guitar riff that’s just messing with your fingers and is just a big finger twister?
Do it slow.
Do it painfully slow and then build speed.
After you’ve done it painfully slow about a thousand times, and you can play it at speed, this next mini tip is actually what got me really fast, play it at a faster speed.
Play it at the fastest tempo that you can do.
So take that same song, and double it or triple it, and it doesn’t matter what song you’re playing, whether that’s Through the Fire and Flames, or Jingle bell rock, you play it faster, and you will get faster and better at that song.
But what if I can’t find a guitar or the time to practice it?
Look if I’m honest with you, there’s a lot of things that can stop you from playing the guitar.
There’s a whole bunch of things that can really hinder you from becoming a great guitarist.
So why not do this, Pray to God to help you with your plans.
Pray to God to make you an excellent guitarist.
And God will make everything available for you.
The Lord will provide a way for you.
Trust in God for everything that’s out of your hands.
And trust him more than me.
