What people think I do as a musician vs. what I really do.

Hey everyone! So today, I’m going to share with you all some of the things that people think I do as a musician.

Before we get into it, let’s have our moment of silence. 

At this time, I would like all of us to take a moment of silence and pray to God to guide us more towards him each day. Take a minimum of 5 minutes and pray for this.

What people think I do as a musician

So I wanted to share this blog post because I want to give a good reality check to those up and coming musicians that are out there. 

I wanted to give a good reality as to what really goes on when someone starts a music career. 

And the reality is that there are many different things that a musician needs to do in order to really get ahead as a musician. 

They practice their instrument, write songs, learn new skills, and promote their music.

Often when you’re starting a music career, you also need to balance other important aspects of your life including going to the gym, girlfriend or boyfriend, family, work, college, etc. etc. 

and though it may seem like a lot, I’ve seen kids tackle on big responsibilities in their lives. So it’s not impossible is what I’m trying to say. 

So these are the things that people think I do as a musician.

Write songs all day

Sadly, I can’t afford that luxury.

i can’t afford to write songs all day long and only focus on writing songs. 

Though it would be a dream job to do, I’m still quite a way aways from doing that. 

Vs. What I actually do

I actually write songs any chance I get and whenever I have a need to do so. 

Like say for example if I have a show coming up, I will want to write a song for that show and rehearse it a few times so that I can make it sound really good. 

I know it’s not good practice but It’s what I can do right now. 

Focus solely on music

I don’t think that there’s a single musician out there in the world that can only focus on music by itself. 

I mean even major label artists have to focus on other things besides music. 

Because the reality is that the music industry is a wide and vast system that incorporates many aspects of music. 

It’s not just music.

It’s writing, videos, lawyers, business people, merchandisers, etc. etc. 

It’s a wide array of things and honestly, it would be a fools bet to only focus on music as an artist. 

Don’t get me wrong, there are people out there who do make songwriting their career. 

Where they are literally put into rooms with other songwriters so that they can come up with the next big hit.

But that’s few and far in between. 

Let me tell you what I really do

Focus on 2 aspects of my music.

I focus on creating music and writing in this blog. 

That’s my two main components to my music career as of now. 

The promotion side of music, I leave it up to my blog. 

And the Musical side, I focus on production and just plain good old songwriting.

But I also have other things that I do.

I go to the gym, I have my own job that I do.

And I’m really focused on God right now.
